Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Viktoriagade; 19.2% ABVjesperhammer (4727) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 15, 2013
Pitch black color with small collar of brown foam. The aroma of roasted malt chocolate and liquorice has a vinous character. Full bodied, more carbonated than the first bottles of Black used to be, with strong roasted malt flavor, overwhelming the chocolate; the alcohol is well present, but it doesn’t become too boozy; again, the barrel gives more a vinous character than calvados; peppery, almost as if chili peppers were used, and some ancho for the flavor.
An experiment more than a wonder.
Mikkeller has reduced the glass size and increased the price. 65kr (12$) for 20cl. I will just visit the bar less and less often...
14-NOV-2013, draft @Mikkeller, Black Sensation night.
Black with low brown head. Aroma is alcohol, calvados, roast. Taste the same. Alcohol certainly not well hidden. Very rough.
So full body. But far too much alcohol. Nearly undrinkable. yngwie (17038) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JAN 29, 2012
On tap at Mikkeller. A dense, finger-thick tan head sits on top of a black body, looking just lovely. The aroma is rather boozy, with calvados, roasted malts, coffee hints and a sugary touch. Boozy, warming, sticky and full-bodied on the palate, with roasted malts, lots of sweetness, some faint coffee notes and a touch of calvados. Lasting finish with sweetness and warmth. Overall, too boozy, intense all the way, and very tasteful, but certainly not a beer to crack a bottle for yourself of, unless you have some time on your hands. 110528 skortila (5798) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - OCT 26, 2011

Pours black with a caramel head.
Aroma is full of roasted malts alongside dark fruits and some oaky flavor. Syrupy note.
Taste is wonderful, very heavy with some cherry and vanilla. Slightly chocolaty and coffee. Strong alcoholic freshness/burn. Some apple sourness from the Calvados. Very creamy, an incredible beer. The aftertaste is long and holds much of the acidic notes anders37 (26194) - Malmö, SWEDEN - SEP 11, 2011
Draft @ Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a rosated malty chocolate and dark fruity aroma with hints of calvados. Sweetish roasted malty dark chocolate and dark fruit flavor with woody hints of calvados. Has a fruity roasted malty chocolate finish. ClubGonzo (5668) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUN 10, 2011
On tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pitch black body, small caramel head. Nose is lots of oak, calvados (quite present), vanilla, leather and lots of alcohol. Nice. Taste comes in waves of alcohol, bringing along charcoal, leather, calvados, oak and vanilla. Dry, hot mouthfeel. Very dense in texture, near oily body. This BA version is so much better than its original that I wouldn’t even have recognized it as the same beer. The booze is more hidden (though present) and the flavors are way more harmonically balanced and the impact of the barrel fits the bill just right. There’s a universe between the original Black edition and the Calvados edition. In fact, if I hadn’t read it on the blackboard at Mikkeller Bar, I would have guessed this was a beer in the "Black Hole" series rather than just "Black". An extremely well-made barrel aged "big bad" stout; way to go Mikkeller! :-) thewolf (12535) - Kolding, DENMARK - JUN 9, 2011

Pours oil black with a small, staying, creamy, beige-brown head. Aroma is sharp, chocolate, hard roasted, green apples and alcohol. Medium carbonation, fine dry and oily mouthfeel. Flavour is sharp, highly vinious, apples, oak and chocolate. The alcohol is still much too powerful.
Doing this review from memory. The taste of calvados is very noticeable and pleasant. Although high in alcohol content, no real burn until the end of the glass. Surprisingly drinkable and nice.
