On tap at Mikkeller. A dense, finger-thick tan head sits on top of a black body, looking just lovely. The aroma is rather boozy, with calvados, roasted malts, coffee hints and a sugary touch. Boozy, warming, sticky and full-bodied on the palate, with roasted malts, lots of sweetness, some faint coffee notes and a touch of calvados. Lasting finish with sweetness and warmth. Bottle at Cgarvie. It pours jet black with a minimal tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, vanilla, salted caramel, treacle, rocky road, filthy, oil and dirt. The taste is bitter, tangy, roasty, mild acidity, plum skin, grape skin, tang, date and red grape and apple brandy with a dry, tangy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Rich and filthy. Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Pitch black with a bit of light brown foam. Great aroma of chocolate, cocoa, fruit and liqueuer pralines, a bit of apple acidity, vanilla, wood and some alcohol. Sweet flavor with a bit of apple acidity, lots of chocolate, wood, vanilla, caramel, mild fruitiness, liqueur and a dry roasty finish. Full-bodied, rounded, with a bit of warming alcohol. Great stuff. Alcohol is very well-integrated for this strength.

Pours oil black with a small, staying, creamy, beige-brown head. Aroma is sharp, chocolate, hard roasted, green apples and alcohol. Medium carbonation, fine dry and oily mouthfeel. Flavour is sharp, highly vinious, apples, oak and chocolate. The alcohol is still much too powerful.
Bottle share at CBC Clerkenwell, many thanks to Ken. A monstrous 19.2%. Black, small foamy brown head. Aroma is balsamic vinegar and sherry. Also has some floral and custardy notes that don’t quite meld together. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is very sweet - face contortingly sweet. Some sherry tang. A little drying ash, but not much. I really like the huge ashiness of the base beer, and it’s been covered up by the sweetness here.
