Bottle @ The Clerkenwell Share. Thanks Kenny (?) for sharing this. Deep brown pour with a small tan head. Pretty salty nose. Rich chocolate malt and ashy toasted grain. Plum meat. Tastee is very sweet indeed. Red berry cuts some of the saltiness present in the nose. Chocolate syrup. Thick, sludgy and rich. A bit all over the place. The black series is hit and miss for me. This one wasn’t a particular favorite. zvikar (6575) - Ramat Gan, ISRAEL - DEC 13, 2014

Tap @ Mikkeller Bar. The aroma is strong and has calvados, green apples, wine, roast, chocolate. Black coloured beer with a beige-brown head. The taste is winey, has fruity flavours, oak, roast, alcohol. Bit oily mouthfeel. Nice. Very powerfull. BoBoChamp (5754) - Gent, BELGIUM - MAY 30, 2014
38cl (NOT brewed at De Proefbrouwerij!), as Mikkeller Small Brew Series! Black (aged in Calvados Barrels), new exclusive Danish brew Anno 2011, from Mikkeller Webshop, very complex sweet Stout, heavily alcoholic/sweet/roasted and slightly fruity, very heavy, yet balanced, hazy, small head, very good brew, yet very expensive!, WOW! On tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pitch black body, small caramel head. Nose is lots of oak, calvados (quite present), vanilla, leather and lots of alcohol. Nice. Taste comes in waves of alcohol, bringing along charcoal, leather, calvados, oak and vanilla. Dry, hot mouthfeel. Very dense in texture, near oily body. This BA version is so much better than its original that I wouldn’t even have recognized it as the same beer. The booze is more hidden (though present) and the flavors are way more harmonically balanced and the impact of the barrel fits the bill just right. There’s a universe between the original Black edition and the Calvados edition. In fact, if I hadn’t read it on the blackboard at Mikkeller Bar, I would have guessed this was a beer in the "Black Hole" series rather than just "Black". An extremely well-made barrel aged "big bad" stout; way to go Mikkeller! :-)

Pours black as night with low tan head. Aroma of booze, liquor barrels, molasses, coffee. Smells nice if not for the extreme alcohol notes. Taste is sweet, calvados and cognac, muscovado. Very warming. Finish sees a light bitterness but the alcohol is still dominant. Body is rich and creamy with flat carbonation. So, dominated by alcohol, although I have to say not in a bad way. I quite enjoy it, my favorite Black so far, nice for sipping in front of an open fire.

14-NOV-2013, draft @Mikkeller, Black Sensation night.
Black with low brown head. Aroma is alcohol, calvados, roast. Taste the same. Alcohol certainly not well hidden. Very rough.
So full body. But far too much alcohol. Nearly undrinkable. ansalon (4219) - Stockholm, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - DEC 5, 2014
(As Mikkeller Black Calvados Small Batch Edition). Pours matte black with almost no head. Sticking your nose in assault your senses with booze, chocolate, esters, calvados, muscoavado sugar, smoked bacon.. Taste is very intense: dark chocolate, calvados, esters, burnt sugar, honey, smoked bacon. Moutfheel is very oily and compact with no carbonation. Very intense and unbalanced yet quite good - if you sip it slowly. BenH (3431) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUL 25, 2014
Bottle. Black with no head. Fruity alcohol, licorice and dark fruit. Taste is quite hot, alcohol, dried fruit, oxidised notes. Sweet and flat with some burn. RasmusOtt (2910) - Aarhus, DENMARK - JUN 1, 2011
Thanks to phredrik for the tick. Pours pitch black with a coffee brown head. Aroma is dark wood, bourbon, salmiak, burnt sugar, burnt caramel, dried berries, coffee, light sour apples and a bit of billiard - great balance here. Taste is oaky, salmiak, burnt caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, light bourbon and some vinous sour apple notes to keep it in balance. by far the best Black ever.
