Bottle at Mikkellers Copenhagen. Black, as it is called. Sweet and with nice vinous aspects. I can detect similar aromas as in red wine accompanied by the same warmth a cognac gives because of the high alc volume. Bottle. 17.5%. Best before 08.11.20. Pours black with a creamy beige/tan head. Great lacing. Aroma is roasted and creamy with dark fruits and a note I want to describe as salami, without actually being salami. Quite sweet flavour with a distinct, slightly tart, cognac note, accompanied by dark fruit notes and light notes of coffee and vanilla. Finish is sweet, with dark fruits and light notes of toffee and butterscotch. Light alcohol burn, lingering. Smooth palate. Overall really good, especially the sweetness. Just had the Islay edition as well; except for the sweetness this is somewhat different; overall just as good as the Islay, but in different ways (in some ways better, in other ways almost, but not quite, as good). Also, the alcohol in this is considerably more well-hidden than in the Islay edition – or maybe it’s just because I’ve had them right after each other, and I’ve grown accustomed to the alcohol. It’s pitch black with a dark brown, creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of roasted malts, chocolate, licorice, preserved dark fruits, dried fruits, light alcohol, wood and cognac. The mouth feel is oily and nice. The flavor is sweet and velvety with a roasted and slightly bitter edge. The notes are heavily roasted and the notes are just as complex and pretty much the same as the aroma, and the big roasted finish has elements of wood, hops and licorice.

375 ml bottle sampled at home - taken from notes 22/03/2011. Pours pitch black with no head. Aroma is the typical Black aroma: petrol/oil & polishing wax, together with roasty and toffee aromas, but then much more mellow due to the cognac. This version is not as edgy as the whisky edition, and adds some oaky and subtle vanilla flavours to it all. Nice.
