From a bottle. Pours syrupy double black and quickly makes a thick light brown coke slurpy head that laces all the way down the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, espresso, and dark fruits. Tastes of cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, and dark malts. An exceptional stout from an exceptional brewery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma of dark malt and dark overripe berries. Incredibly much black malt flavor and dark coffee and dark cocoa. Incredibly heavy bitterness that fills the mouth forever. Very special taste. But no alcohol in taste. Which is good. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

tap at Mikkeller Bar (Copenhagen). pours dark, almost pitch black with frothy beige head. aroma is roastiness, hops, liquor, pralines and coffee, pleasantly complex. drinking that ris is pure pleasure as body is full and every sip makes you appreciate the complexity of that beer, must drink so to say.

bottle; 9 month Black colour, brown head. Aroma: malty, vanilla, chocolate. Full body, very sweet, high bitterness. Flavour: chocolate, red fruits/ esters, but finish dominates: bitterness, lots of roasted notes and even more terrible alcohol.

Aus der Flasche (bbe 2020-06) 2017-05 getrunken. Ein 黑 Black ist ein 黑 Black. Megageil!

Can at home. I’ve had this before on draft 2 years ago at Mikkeller in Shibuya, and it was a massive, complex beast of a beer. This is slightly less full, and less developed affair. I can see why it divides opinion. It’s a big impy stout, but it’s got a very burnt aroma, and a slightly tart, acidic edge to it which means it’s not your typical thick sugar laden impy which will put you off to sleep after half a glass. For me it has all the big impy features: thick mouthfeel, huge deep black hue, foamy tan head, but the aroma is more like a charcoal fuelled black IPA, and the taste is cut with something approaching a sour. I think it’s an astonishing beer.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2017 330ml can at 16.1%. Pours jet black with a huge tan head, eventually settling with nice lacing. Aroma: dark fruits, raisin, roasted malt, coffee. Taste: dark fruits, chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, alcohol, sugar, very warming bitter finish, a bit astringent though. Full body, soft carbonation. Certainly a strong one, nice but I feel the astringency lets it down a bit, not a particularly pleasant aspect.
Rating #1000!

I want to warm up to this budget buster, but the backend on this thing is not desirable. Very astringent. I’m not even sure I like the front end. Yes... impressively hidden alcohol--neat trick--but the flavor profile is a bust for me. Damn you to hell on this on Mikkeller. I sold my car for 12.7 FL OZs of this stuff.
