Deep oily blackish aroma with no head. Light smoke, lots of molasses, malty chocolate and toffee. Great balance, though kinda flat, loads of complex sweet notes balanced by alchohol bitterness. Doesnt feel sharp at all. Great dantheman278 (1365) - SCOTLAND - MAR 17, 2012
Bottle at cgarvieuk’s, courtesy of Benjii and Sev. Thanks!! Deep black pour, no head. Awesome nose, massive rich dark chocolate, liquorice, massively fruity, hint of coffee, marzipan maybe. Amazing sweet chocolate front, more marzipan, sweet caramel maybe, hints of coffee grounds, just a very very tiny hint of booze on the finish, also a touch of earthy hops. This is pretty amazing. ej (1330) - Hauglandshella, NORWAY - FEB 19, 2014
Pours a viscous black with no head formation. Aroma is vinous, roasty and slightly alcoholic. Notes of dark dried fruits as well. Taste is roasty, vinous with hints of smoke and tar. bax (1312) - Hasselager, Aarhus, DENMARK - DEC 17, 2011
(Bottle 17/12-2011) large dark brown head, black color, roasted chocolade aroma, smooth roasted slightly smoky taste. jbeatty (1267) - New York, USA - JUL 2, 2012
Bottle, thanks to jeffo. 07/02/2012. Pours black, no head at all. Thick aroma- dark chocolate and smooth roast espresso, a bit of dark fruity sweetness, light licorice and char. Taste is dark chocolate syrup drizzled fruit, dark roast that can’t quite balance the sweetness, little boozy in the finish. Medium body probably a bit lighter than I’d like for these flavors. Alright, but probably not one of Mikkeller’s top stouts.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2013 Pours pitch black with brown and very big steady foam. Aroma is roasty, little burnt, chocolate, licorice, finnish salty licorice, herbs and little hop bitterness on background. Taste is chocolate sweet, salty licorice-like, little roasty. On the background is coffee and citrus. Palate is medium and quite bitter. All in all, very stable imperial stout, which has something special. phredrik (1024) - Copenhagen (formerly Aalborg), DENMARK - SEP 14, 2011
33 cl bottle into my De Molen snifter. Bought at Ølbutikken. Pours black with a red shine in the edges, a nice latté brown head that dissipates after a minute or so. Aroma starts somewhat hoppy and sweet. Chewy notes like molasses, brown syrup, chocolate and caramel. Then some more roasted notes of coffee and an ashy note. I’ve seen some people mention peat, and I actually get a small bit of that in the aroma. There are notes of alcohol and even cola. Though it’s still young, I really enjoy the aroma here. Taste is very sweet and chewy, syrupy caramel, raisins, chocolate. Roasted notes are there as well with liquorice, coffee and a burnt ashy note, too which makes it a bit rough. In the finish, the hops take over with a lot of bitterness, and the hop tastes like pine and citrus also come to show. My overall impression is that it’s young, a bit rough, though very sweet, bordering the cloying and on the bright side lots of good tastes going on, especially the nice sugary aspects like molasses and brown sugar. If you made it to the end of this beer review, congratulations. beerisgoodforu (992) - Nørresundby, DENMARK - SEP 24, 2011
Bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a very small tan head. Aroma is filled with roasted malt, burnt notes, dark fruits, touch of alcohol, liqourice, dark chocolate, brown sugar and ash. Flavor is again quite roasted with burn and ashy notes, along with dark fruits, burnt caramel, brown sugar, liqourice, dark chocolate, brownsugar and no trace of alcohol. The body is full with a creamy and sugary sticky mouthfeel. Overall a pretty nice Imperial Stout, but not the best Imperial Stout from Mikkeller. maledictum (822) - Pyongyang, NORTH KOREA - DEC 24, 2011
Bottled. A pitch black beer with no head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, roasted malt, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, alcohol, and chocolate, leading to a dry, roasted and bitter finish.
