Sample on Day 3 of the Aces & Ales Strong Beer Festival on 08/14/2011. The menu specified a different recipe than the bottled version. Pours deep brownish-black with a medium tan head that recedes slowly. Top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Aroma of dark chocolate, strong coffee and touches of anise and malt. Rich and smooth body with a roasty character and flavors of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and hops. The finish has a lasting vanilla coffee aftertaste. Would like to try back to back with the bottled version, but as it stands this is a good beer.

Opaque black stout. Dry palate. Tangy porter like dark malt but also smoky too. Balancing this out is a juicy and hoppy finish with sourish fruit. Overall comes across as a porter. Hangs togther well - prefer this to the regular version.
Bottle. Pours a black body with an off white head. Dark malts, coffee and some light char tones. Malty chocolate tones, hints of licorice and wooden tones. Light warming a hint of irish cream. Dry and bittering with a coffee luster. Nice. Bragesnak (5394) - Aarhus, DENMARK - APR 27, 2008

The problem with Mikkeller is they’ve only done four versions of Beer Geek Breakfast. Slackarses. If the beers are all as good as this and the original, then four is not enough. This sorry world needs more. The Draft Versions is a Rolls Royce of a stout, smooth and elegant, with plenty of horsepower under the bonnet. Jet black with a huge head. Porridgey grains, roasted coffee beans and loganberries in the aroma. Gloriously creamy body. Lovely rounded flavours - lactic body, souring milk, rich coffee bitterness and a peppery finish. Terrific stuff. I can’t draw a line between this and the original. (Bottle courtesy of Papsoe at Ecze’s Sydney RB 07 gathering. Many thanks to both.)
