(Bottle) Black colour with brief, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak wood and hints of smoke. Malty, roasted taste with espresso, freshly ground coffee, dark chocolate, wood, hints of smoke, grass, some tamarind and a balanced coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Opaque black beer with slight yeast and with a medium brown head.
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, wood and chocolate; ends medium bitter and dry with roasted malts, coffee and hops.
This beer is intense and complex, but lacks balance slightly. Not enough sweetness to battle that immense coffee.
Bottle, dunno when or where. Pours black with a small off-white head. Bitter with a moderate sweetness. Aromas of coffee malts with hoppy notes of spruce. Light notes of alcohol. 750 ml caged and corked bottle poured into a Bruery tulip. Bought in March 2014. Huge pop upon uncorking. Black with a ridiculous amount of tan head as if it were over-carbonated or slightly infected. Aromas of metallic notes, oak, roasty notes, soy sauce, some chocolate. Pours black with a small light brown head. Head retention is poor. AROMA: dark roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, slight herbs, dark stone fruit tartness, smoke, herbal hops, black coriander, slight vanilla and leaves. TASTE: dark roasted malt, chard coffee, cocoa oil, hops spice, herbs, burned brown sugar, coriander, slight soy sauce, dark stone fruit, molasses and earthy. AFTER TASTE: chard coffee, dark malt, spices and earthy with an oily slightly thick finish.
