, CPH. Quite much black colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is quite cidery along with raspberries, cherries, wood and some quite liquorice and roasted notes. Flavour is sweetish tart raspberries and cherry pips along with some mild roasted malts as well as wood and quite spritzy notes. Wellbalanced, and has actually lost some of the Imperial Stout in it...
On tap at Ølbutikken. A gorgeous looking beer, black as can be, and with a big, brown head on top. Roasted malts, lots of cherries and calvados, hints of vanilla and a faint vinegar touch in the aroma. The flavor has a certain sweetness, yet it feels quite dry. Warming and full-bodied, with roasted malts, cherries and calvados, some vanilla and that same touch of vinegar found in the aroma. Lasting finish with a good warmth. At first, this beer hit me quite hard, but after a few small sips it smoothens out and is really enjoyable. I think it’s the first time I’ve written 5+ on the palate score, it’s just plain lovely. 100508 MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 19, 2010

You’ve gotta love the Danes. Only in Denmark could you find thirty or so beer geeks standing out in the cold at 10am drinking something as crazy as this... I’d had a pretty Herculean drinking session the night before and I admit, when my alarm went off to wake me up to get over to Ølbutikken in time, I just was not feeling up for it. In fact, I was looking and feeling seriously shaky, which Charlotte wasted no time in pointing out when I arrived, thank you dear. Thankfully, the company and this little beery gem made everything seem ok. Anyway, the beer. An almost opaque black body with a pillowy tan head. A damn fine looking beer indeed. This does exactly what it says on the label. The already brilliant brunch (actually one of my favourite ever beers) and the complex genius that comes with it is still quite clear underneath. The Calvados adds an assertive sweetness and gives it even more body than the considerable weight of the regular version. The cherries add even more sweetness and a light tarty note that stops it becoming a full on sugar fest. Coupled with the apples they blend to give a strong porty character and once that subsides, you are left with a rich chewy malt aftertaste. As with all of Mikkel’s beers, it was both excellent and interesting.
