Bottled at Big Beers and Barley Wines. Pretty cool stout. Bitter and hoppy without being too much. Seemed an American style well made by those crazy Danes!

16.9 ounce bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half frothy tan head that stayed around a while. Theres also a lot of lacing left on the glass. It smells like roasted malt, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, piney hops, burnt/charred malt, and some light citrusy hops. I think the taste is just like the aroma. Its roasty, hoppy, bitter and sweet all at the same time. Its a very tasty brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium, its creamy and easy to drink with good carbonation. Im liking this beer a lot, and I plan on picking up another bottle soon! $9.99 a bottle.

Tap at Mikkeller Bar. Very dark brown with a dense mocha head. Hoppy, roasted aroma - coffee, grapefruit, roasted, almost burned malt, licorice, dark chocolate. Thick and sticky texture, sweet roast, massive dose of fruity hops, long lingering bitter finish. High drinkability.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2013 On tap @ Mikkeller Bar. Pours black, no head. What little there is, is tan. Aroma of roasted malt, smoke, wood chips, chocolate and coffee. Taste is dominated by roasted malt, very burnt and sticky. Finish is bitter, smoky. Body is medium but light for the style and ABV. Fairly high, sticky carbonation.

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2015 16.9 oz bottle. Great balance of big roasty espresso deliciousness and good big earthy leafy piney hops. Good big bitter taste, with a sweet finish. Light dark chocolate. Great hoppy roasty aftertaste. Cream. Hint of smoke. Good smooth lighter carbonation, more dry texture, but big chewy body. Black color with chunks of sediment in the body, good light brown head, leaving dots of lace everywhere. This is ridiculously good. Is it a hoppy stout, or black IPA? Who cares; its delicious, is what it is. Delicious the whole way through. Will definitely be revisiting. Its been a while since I had a beer this good. 9/5/8/5/18

Re-rate, 10/15/15: 11.2oz bottle. This recent release is brewed at Lervig. AFAIK, the last batch of 500ml were brewed at Nogne O. Even if Ratebeer chooses to not recognize these as different beers, theyre bound to have way different character, Im guessing. In any case, its worth a revisit. Its been 3 years since I gave a 4.5 to this beer the first (and last) time I had it. Damn... Impressively dark brown head. Darker head than on most stouts I see. Black body. Good webs of lace. Roast in the nose, coffee. In the flavor, more heavy roast malt, big earthy hop, pine, nice coffee aftertaste. Super-long, potent aftertaste. Crap, I was expecting to be jaded with my years of experience and widened frame of reference, but I have to admit this a great start. Medium-plus body. Drinks a bit lighter than expected, but with a decently full feel, and mild chewiness. Lighter, kind of soft carbonation. Mild slick finish. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, lighter sweet. Damn. A damn near perfect black IPA. Why do I like this so much? I dont think I can tell (or remember) the difference in brewery character here, but whats important is that its pretty much just as exciting as I remember. Super-pleasing, totally hits the spot. Id grab 5 more if it wasnt like $9 a bottle or whatever it is.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2012 Pours a deep black umber with a two finger thick frothy head... the nose is amazing on this beer. Big piney resinous sawdusty notes mingle with roasted malts and big chocolate whiffs. Wow... on the palate its alot of the same with traces of juicy grapefruit, more big piney flavors all wrapped in the deep roasted chocolate stout that Mikkeller is known for. I may like this one more than the original. damn what a beer !

Pours opaque, deep black with a thin khaki head that quickly dissipates. Faint hint of hops with a backing of earthy cocoa and dark roasted malts. Little bit of coffee in there too. This is an absolutely delightful and hop packed stout. Citrus and piny hops up front with a cocoa and coffee backing that finishes smooth.

Bottle poured a magnificent deep cola with an enormous frothy mocha head that took several minutes to dissapate, and best lacing Ive seen to date. Aroma begins with roasted malt, coffee beans, bakers chocolate, licorice, before the piney resin hop reveals itself. Taste begins with dark fruits followed by roasted malt and coffee before a wave of palatable hop bitterness is introduced. Nice sticky mouthfeel with alcohol warming and bitterness lingering on the palate.

Very dark pour with good sized mocha head. Smells like hoppy coffee. A distinct bitter, thick and frothy taste with after tastes of coffee and chocolate and oats. Bitter subsides quickly after each drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50cl bottle. Pours jet black with thin tan head (doesnt stick around long), light lacing. Aroma is an incredibly interesting mix of medium & dark roast coffee, deep roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, and some spicy, herbal, and citric hop notes. Taste is a real potent combo of all the above flavours - incredibly well balanced - the herby/spicy hop character comes through pretty well in spite of all of the heavy roasted flavour going on here; loads of brilliant intense coffee notes - a real freshly-ground taste. Plenty of roasted malt and bitter (very) dark chocolate in there too. Mouthfeel is full and silky smooth. Lingering light hop bitterness (faint grapefruit even) and powerful roasted notes of the palate. Big fan of Beer Geek Breakfast, so no surprises that I like this - thought the hops really do give this a great lift; another cracker from Mikkeller.
