Bottle and served in Bells snifter: Pours nearly opaque with a fizzy head the seems to have coffee grounds in it (yes it does) and left good lace upon glass. Wow, big juicy and piney hops over a layer of espresso, roast and some chocolate. Close your eyes and you would swear you are drinking an IPA. The flavor profile is a bit more "stout" like than the nose but not by much, still quite piney, acidic, tropical and resiny with more bitterness supplied by the coffee. What sweeter malts maybe present are beating into a pulp by all that bitterness. Finish more than a bit metallic, roasty, and tannic. Methinks due to the coffee addition the mouth feel is a tad thin but also very vibrant and sprite. If the Pipeworks Close Encounter is listed as an Black IPA then so should this. It very well is just as hop forward if not more so.

glennmastrange (2803) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 13, 2012
Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of toasted, milk choclate, and strong coffee, moderate resin for the hops, moderate earth and wet cement for the yeast, with charcoal and pepper in the background. Head is small, frothy, light brown with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts slightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is medium, creamy with a soft to lively carbonation and a dry and a bit sticky finish. Nice combination of aromas and flavors, this Stout has something for both malt lovers and hop heads.

Pitch black with a beautiful fluffy head. Great nose showing coffee and some burnt cream. Full bodied and delicious. It starts with roasted espresso bean and then transitions to a brooding, dry finish. Great stuff!

Beautiful looking beer with great light brown head on pour. Just reeks of coffee and pretty fresh seeming pine hops. Taste is nice blend of pine with some citrus with a good dollop of coffee. great stout.

Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a creamy choclaty head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of nice looking lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet, bitter and tiny sour with lots of coffee, lemon zest, pine, chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, alcohol and hints of freshly cut grass and black pepper. Taste is slightly sweet and bitter with coffee, roasted malts, bitter chocolate, pine, orange zest, lemon peal, resinous wood and small hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is tiny tart, dry, round and full bodied. Finish is dry and bitter with coffee, roasted malts, cocoa, pine and lemon zest.

Breaking this open for breakfast as suggested. Pours black with a foamy dark tan head. The aroma is dark roast coffee, oatmeal laced with a slightly fruity and piney hop note. The flavor is very complex. It begins with a chocolately espresso flavor followed by a citrusy punch. It ends with an intensely bitter hop and coffee finish that will probably last all day. A hopheads stout if I have ever seen one. Really good.

Pours black with a large, dark tan head and lacing. Nose shows passion-fruit, chocolate truffles, soft pine, oatmeal and earthy coffee beans. Very nice. Very rich, decadent flavours, with massive amounts of espresso and cocoa complimented by more passion-fruit and peach. Coffee is definitely the dominant flavour though, becoming almost harsh and creating a very sharp bitterness. Could use more carbonation to create a creamier mouthfeel.
