Bottle from Jane’s beer store. Great taste, like an imperial stout. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, liquorice. ffbot (433) - Oakland, California, USA - MAY 15, 2016
Pour is a deep jet black, tiny tan head and still as stone. Smell is strong black licorice, salty and creamy malt, basement leather. Taste is coffee, strong and black. Then the rest hits slowly, big smoky and leather taste, earthy qualities. Almost no hoppiness to it, but it’s there in the black coffee aftertaste drowland (8955) - Georgia, USA - JUL 5, 2010
RATING 1900! 6/26/10. Sampled at Tally Tasting 2010, with huge thanks to hopscotch - this was my favorite beer of the night! Wow. In my opinion, the aroma is an awesome cross between hoppiness and coffee. Very unique. It’s like green citrus coffee. The flavor is awesome coffee and citrus hops. Love it, really. Very good, wow! dark colour (probably the darkest I’ve ever seen), medium, brown head; aroma of IPA-like citrus and dark chocolate; taste of citrus, coffee, dark chocolate and extreme amount of bitterness;for me it’s more like a black IPA than a stout...or at least a mix of an IPA and a stout. very good beer
UPDATE: As it warms up, the bitter aftertaste becomes more and more intensive and long lasting...now it’s biting my tongue for minutes. really excellent! greenclansman (975) - Nicosia, CYPRUS - APR 2, 2013
Wowww what a beer.
Super black, thick and full.
Roasted malts, coffee, hops....hops and hops.
Very bitter with dry finish.

16.9 oz botle from Capone’s. Pours onyx with big 4-finger tan head. Nose is huge resiny hops, pine, dark roasty malt, coffee, cacao. Tastes very smooth, rich, with a front end of nitrogenated dark malt, incredibly velvety smooth, with mid-palate hops, coffee, cacao, and earthy molasses and blackberry and fig notes. This one is as smooth as it gets, and absolutely wonderful. Naysayers can suck my balls, because this one rules, and it even better than Alpha Klaus. Bottle purchased at "The Village Beer Market" in Buffalo. Pours a dark, dark, dark, man this is dark beer. Huge tan head (about three fingers hight) that settles down to a thin layer, lots of spotty lacing here and there, and spots of residual sugar on the glass walls. Aroma is sweet and of fruit of the hop (LOL), but you then get that malty chocolate as well as coffee and some minor amounts of hops. Taste is fantastic, dark chocolate, oats, coffee, maltiness. Nice mouth feel, simply put its good stuff. I wanna try it for breakfast now. Prokroustis (745) - Thessaloniki, GREECE - AUG 17, 2011
Pitch black body with a small brown head. Awsome aroma of coffee and chocolate. Taste has coffee, dark chocolate, cereal and a great bitter finish that I find very balanced. Amazing. DanielBrown (4528) - Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, ENGLAND - JUL 3, 2012
Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Pours a beautiful glossy black, with a magnificent brown, thick topping. Smells very good indeed, beautiful hoppy charcoal. Flavour is maybe not as smooth as I expected, but this is a very minor quibble, as it is certainly smooth enough. Beautifully balanced mixture of pie-crusted chocolate inflected Stout, swished back and front with a wash of piney/resin hops and sweetly fragrant green hued tang. Really a magnificent beer, which is a Black IPA as far as I’m concerned. One of the best ever.
