Pours an opaque brown with a thin cap of mocha head that is very bubbly. Moderate lacing. I got a ton of sedimant in this beer. Aroma is so strong up front. A ton of red wine mixed with a lot of yeast and alcohol. A lot of caramel and dark fruit. If you hold your nose for a while, there is a slight rubbing alcohol burn. Awesome mix. Mouth is huge. A lot of yeast and alcohol. Dark fruits: mainly plum and figs. Some vanilla and caramel. There is a lot of Red wine that finishes off dry and sits on your tongue a bit. Clear amber colour, white head. Aroma of caramel, red fruits, raisins, alcohol, malts, quite sweet, some wood, light wine and Bourbon notes. Dry astringent. Sweet flavour, vanilla, wood and nuts. Woody finish, malts, sweet, wine and Bourbon.

Bottle. Pours red/amber with a big fluffy white head, a little sediment throughout. Nose is wood, cranberry and red whine. Light notes of caramel and vanilla. Taste is red wine barrel up front. Some boozy vanilla, almost bourbon like notes. Red wine in the finish. Palate is full and soft. Lots of booze and heat. Nice beer but not as good as the base beer. Also wish the red wine differentiated itself a bit more.

At oakquinox 2013. Clear dark amber, thin head. Caramel, quite sweet, strong barrel character, wine barrel, and oak. Meh. tmrmwel (2269) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 22, 2013
On tap @ Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours a dark brown, almost amber, with a thick creamy head. Aroma Is roasted malts, with oak and earthy notes, as well as fruity port winey whiffs and quite a lot of bittering lemon peel hops. Full, creamy body with medium carbonation. Flavour is quite bitter with citrusy hops and pine, as well as sweet roasted malts with succade and molasses giving it an oaky finish with lots of earthy notes. Bottle @ home. Clear brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit, notes of vanilla, wood, notes of red wine and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 110413 brystmar (1314) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 27, 2013
Malty and piney aromas initially, supported by barrels that remind me more of white wine than red. Tastes like a standard American Barleywine: caramel malts atop the boozy, hoppy base with a warming sensation after I swallow.
Barrel character works much better than expected, especially from an inconsistent renegade like Mikkeller. Pleasantly surprised to report that I enjoyed this one.
