Cloudy dark red beer with a big pale tan fluffy head. Light palate, smooth and a little dry. Low carbonation. Light malt with traces of cream and barrel induced vanilla. Nice touch of red wine, not dominant but with good red berry fruits. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Very nice BA beer that belies it’s strength.

375ml bottle. Pours a deep garnet color with a fluffy khaki head. Aroma is hops, caramel, alcohol, and wood. Taste is sweet with some vinous and light bandaid notes. For 12%, this drinks pretty well. It does have the hop/malt profile I’ve come to expect from Mikeller. Pretty good.

DesertDevil (699) - Arizona, USA - DEC 14, 2012
Bottle. pours rich, clean burgundy with an odd thin cirrus-like head. Aroma of sweet figs, and some vinous notes. Taste of intense sweet wine and vanilla that quickly transitions to oak and some cherry tones with a hint of caramel maltiness and some peppery spice. Tannins are quite evident. Very carbonated, sort of champagne-like, with a dry finish that complements the beer. Well done, Mikkeller.

Bottle from Winooski A: caramel, cherry, vanilla, brown sugar. App: brown with reddish highlight white head. T/p: full body finish is sweet and medium long. Some warming from the alcohol.Medium carbonation. O: simply superb. The wood is well placed. the complexity is amazing. I really enjoyed every sip of that beer.

On draft at Craft Beer Co. Sweet Christmas, this is a big beer. Pretty compelling appearance, a slightly sludgy reddish brown that almost looks like a really, really old wine (were it not for the carbonation). Fitting I guess. Nose was quite nice too, with some rich BW properties (though a bit of a boozy smack) complemented by a nice full tannic nose. Mouthfeel a bit too hot for me, but what are you gonna do at 12%? Flavors were good, with tons of wood and malt balanced well to avoid overpowering caramelly sweetness, and a nice strong red wine component that makes the base more fruity even as it adds a gentle tart note. Impressive beer.
