On tap at Craft Beer Co. Murky red brown. Thin beige head. Lots of red wine barrel. Lots of fruits lots of hops on finish. Doesnt drink its strength. Pretty good. I like the red wine and the hops. Fine

mcberko (18983) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 6, 2012
375mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out the red wine barrels, with loads of caramel malt, raisins, dates, figs, candied sugar and booze - quite hot. Flavour has been nicely massaged into a dry vinous dominated one, with dried fruits, toffee and booze. Dry, vinous, boozy palate, with a sort of muted aftertaste. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours murky reddish amber. Tan head. Nose/taste of caramel, toffee, vinous notes, oak and almonds. Alcohol noticeable in finish, but not overpowering. Vinous notes are well balanced throughout. Mouth feel is mildly sticky at times. Medium to full body.

yngwie (17234) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 15, 2012
Bottle, 375ml. A big, dense, off-white head leaves lacings as the hazy, dark amber beer leaves the glass. Wine, alcohol, wood, piney hops, some beef stock, caramel and dried fruits in the aroma. Lightly warming on the palate, full-bodied and softly carbonated, with some chocolate, as well as coffee, dried fruits and resiny, flour-ish hops. Alcohol too. Lasting finish with a nice bitterness. A pleasant one indeed, although a bit boozy in the flavor. 120905

Benzai (16690) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - MAY 25, 2013
Bottle shared at ZZT VII. Dark red color, small to medium sized off - white head. Smell malts, wine, liquor, lightly alcohol, some sweetness. Nicely balanced. Great beer.

brokensail (16648) - Dublin, California, USA - SEP 13, 2011
A: The pour is amber in color with a fairly tall off-white head for a barleywine. S: Lots of wine aroma on the nose along with some notes of vanilla. Those are nice, but there is a distinct ethanol note to it as well. A bit of caramel and toffee followed by more booze, oak, and rubber. T: There is a very harsh oak flavor to the beer which is quite tannic and astringent. A strong bitterness and harsh booze/ethanol heat. Just a touch of red wine to go with the rubber cement. M: Medium bodied with low carbonation. O: I just don’t know how these beers keep selling. Morbid curiosity, I suppose.

bhensonb (15761) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 20, 2011
Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours really dark amber with some beige bubbles for head. Aromais marvelously confusing. Reminds me of my old chemistry set. Seems to be a lot of oak. Full bodied. Vinous. Oaky. Oak kills the sweet. Not exactly sour - but Imperial Flemish Red Ale?

3.6
