Pours dark crimson / brown with a tan soapy head. The aroma has lots of deep caramel malt, richness, light barrel, cream, brown sugar, toffee and light hints of red wine. Full body with lots of smoothness and flowing semi-soft carbonation. The flavor starts sweet with brown sugar, lots of malt, alcohol warmth, caramel, toffee and a hint of oak. The beer pours a brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of red wine and oak notes, as well as some toffee and brown sugar. The flavor is very similar. I get a lot of molasses and fruity red wine notes, as well as some oak, maple, vanilla and the alcohol you would expect in a beer that clocks in at 12 percent. The look: Cloudy copper body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Strange nose of dank basement, booze and fruits. Taste just didn’t work for me. Clash of toasted caramelized malts, astringency, wood barrels, sweaty used jack-strap, too much booze, some cardboard, vinous notes, some tannins. I hope there was something wrong with this bottle. This is again barrel aging done without discernment, not any beer can be aged in any barrel. There was many disappointments at EBF this year, but most disappointing of all was me. Again.

Pours a hazy ruby into a snifter. White head with little retention leaves pot lacing as it recedes to hug rim. Dark, dusty oak and pit fruit aromas. Sweet port and hot oak from front to back. Dry, sweet oak finish.

Fra fat på Cardinaltreff feb-13, kveldens siste av totalt 16: uklar og mørekbrun med beige skum. Det er tydelig allerede i aromaen at rødvinsfatene har gjort sitt, den er preget av både rødvin og eikefat. Men heldigvis er humlen fremdeles til stede, og vitamininnholdet setter seg der det skal. Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry boozy, cognac, oak, burnt caramel, old moldy cellar, hay, paper.Taste is slightly dry, oak, booze, minerals, hay, paper, grass, burnt caramel. Medium bitterness, dry boozy mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea. And redwine....?

Bottle. Pours a deep, near-brown coppery amber body with a big creamy light beige head. Nose is oak tannins, caramel, alcohol, red wine and hints of brown sugar and burnt rubber. Taste is dry oak tones, red wine, caramel, burnt sugar, alcohol, bready grains and hints of bitter herbs in the finish. Full body, medium carbonation. Complex and nice, but perhaps a bit too high on bitter red wine/oak tannins; I generally prefer my barley wines a bit sweeter. Good stuff, though.
