Tiny bubbly shortlasting head, nice amber color. Aroma is slightly rich and oxidized, minerals, candi sugar, raisins, alcohol, burnt caramel, grass, "knekk", weeds. Taste is slightly sweet and concentrated, raisins, minerals, grass, alcohol, candi sugar, burnt caramel, "knekk", dried fruits. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mineraly mouthfeel. Nice one.
Sampled from 0.375 l bottle. Clear, dark brownish amber, no head. Sweetish-malty, slightly boozy aroma of caramel, vanilla, treacle, some tea leaves and hints of licorice. Rather sweet, malty taste of caramel, treacle, vanilla, some tea leaves and a touch of licorice, followed by a medium long, rather warming-alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, almost oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice! Koelschtrinker (20591) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - SEP 30, 2016
Runder, malzig alkoholischer Antrunk, keine Karbonisierung. Vergleichsweise süffig auch wenn der Alkohol zum Teil deutlich hervorkommt. Vergoren fruchtig, sehr würzig. Mittellanger, etwas brennender Nachgeschmack. Okay. 9/10/8/10/9/10 Beerhunter111 (21515) - P´Castle, GERMANY - SEP 30, 2016

Draft glass @ Kulminator. 2013 Vintage, absolutely astonishing beer & the age probably really helped here because after this one I sampled a 2012 “Big Worse Barley Wine Red Wine Barrel Edition” & it was massively better than my notes of a fresh bottle indicate. Just really massive marzipan, vanilla, oak, agave, maple, malts sweetness, amazingly pure & intense just massive sweet vanilla, oak & marzipan all the way with perfect oxidation, thick & creamy. Added toffee & caramel sweetness in the back. Perfect for lovers of massive sweet barley wines, oddly some bourbon-like notes in the heavy vanilla but I was assured that this was the regular version. Either way, quite spectacular. Bacterial (3005) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - JAN 2, 2016
Bottle shared at Darkness Day 2015, somehow forgot to put my entry in. This was a 2011 bottle. My notes: Flat. Oxidized. Garbage. TorbenJensen (1532) - Valby, DENMARK - SEP 16, 2015
The scent is strangely enough most hop influenced, and you sense the flowered aroma hops very clearly. The taste is sweet and fruity. A little malt sweetness, but most sweetness released in the direction of dessert wines. It may have some character of sherry / port, but only with a greater emphasis on dried fruits such as fig and raisin. Gentle warming alcohol character which first comes after several minutes in the form of a slow rising hot starting of the throat. It is not the aggressive and provocative strong brew as you might expect, but instead a very characterful and extremely delicate beer that inspires hour long recess and full enjoyment. 375 ml bottle from The Wine and Cheese Place. Original 17.6% vintage. Pours a cloudy amber - leaning toward a deeper reddish mahogany - with no head. Notes of booze-soaked cake, caramel, brown sugar, dates, toffee, raisins, and candied nuts. Really rich and boozy. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, warming mouthfeel. For a non-barrel-aged beer, they sure got some serious strength out of this one.
