Christian (13815) - Odense, DENMARK - JAN 22, 2010
Red amber with a small but lasting off-white head. The aroma has fruity peach and tangerine, some sherry notes, and vineous alcohol, bordering ever so slightly on paint thinner. Fruit and sherry in the flavour too, with a sugary sweetness. Big fruity hops at work to cover the alcohol, but doesn’t quite succeed.

250ml from tap at Ørsted Ølbar & Café. Murky, dark reddish body, no head. Aroma of sweet dried fruits. Sweet hops and dried fruits in flavour, dominated by apricots. Moderate impact of alcohol on the palate. Alright sipper that gets a bit too sweet (Copenhagen, 09.05.2010).

courtesy of fiulijn - quite clear amber colour and with a moderate head retention; aroma of marzipan and chewy malts with notes of alcohol and solvant; full-bodied and very sweet; a huge alcohol kick, residual sugars and almondy hoppy finish, slightly fruity

"newer batch coming in at 18.5%. i saw a pic of batch one and this ain’t the same colors either. poured the color of a slightly darker malt liquor. smell is sweet, fruity, phenol, with a dose of herbal hops at the end. unlike anything i’ve ever had. no real barleywine characteristics in the look, smell, or taste, but a cool, unique beer. reminds me more of a muscat or ice wine than beer. alcohol becomes apparent as it warms, but it’s nowhere near as hot as Mikkeller Black, their next strongest beer. Worth a shot just for the experience."

Tap @ Lord Nelson, Cph.
Pours a very impressive clear red with a small, creamy, off-white head that soon ends up as a thin film. Aroma is fruity, there is a strong note of rhubarb at first, softly vinious (which is impressive), caramel, toffee, grapefruity hops. Very low, slightly prickly carbonation, super oily mouthfeel. Flavour starts very, very sweet with lots of caramel. But this is luckily balanced well by alcohol and a powerful hops dose. Very dry in the finish actually. There are sherry notes everywhere, but still feels like a beer with rather chewy malts (almost crisp, even). The aftertaste, though, is sublime. The bitterness stays on my tongue and the top of my throat, while the warmth settles nicely in my belly. It is lovely non-alcoholic, yet still very strong. Very good for what it’s attempting, though I might prefer a Big Worse.
