This is sooooooooo good, my god how is this not the best thing on the planet!!!! Brew appears dark ruby brown, it somehow almost looks purple complete with a thin skiff floating on top but with 17% alcohol what ells should expect. WOW is this thick so very thick feeling it like the most yummy cough syrup ever. Sweet hops and some astringent are in the nose but not unpleasant. This taste phenomenal the 17% is completely hidden its smooth warm and yummy. Hops seem to go from a peach to grape fruit. Just hit some almond extract. All this seems to be built on this sweet plum/fig combo. Great brew.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2011 375ml bottle shared with good friends, luckily because this beer is very strong. The alcohol is very well masked though. Almost no head, amber color. Nose: this smells sweet, hints of toffe and alcohol. Taste: toffee, overripe papaya and figs, maple-syrup, acacia-honey, even some touches of licorice at the very end of the aftertaste. Some chest-warming sensations from the alcohol appears after a while. Worked very well with dark lemon-flavored chocolate, both not so well with blue cheese. A great dessert-beer and a great Barley Wine.

375ml bottle listed at 17.6%ABV pours a golden orangeish color with a small white head which leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits and malts with some floral hops. Taste is a big malty sweetness with hints of fruit and a modest hop bitterness and nice alcohol burn in the finish. Nicely balanced flavors. Full bodied with light carbonation. A truly outstanding barley wine.

17.6% Version. Cloudy amber beer. Floral hoppy nose with elderflower coming to the fore. Light airy palate, dry but not overly so. Sweet floral hops, elderflower, chamomile. A whisper of well buried hop fruit. All underpinned by intense sweet toffee malt. Finishes with some Port Wine tones. Bloody Nora! This is a good one! Not heavy like you might expect and with some unusual flavours for a barleywine.

Barley wine as an experiment. All colours are involved. A liquid is strange, strong, stinky, alcoholic, earthy with nose of last century old wooden barrell and old aluminium pipes. I think you need to drink more overpriced bottles to recognize what animal you drink. [email protected]

Another delicious barleywine. Mikkeller has done a nice take on the American barleywine. Really tasty treat and while this is difficult to find in the Norhtern NJ/New York City I won’t hesitate to pick another up when I see it.
