Intense black beer. Tiny head. Aroma is a mix of alcohol, roasted grain, and sugar. Very intense flavor. Lot’s of stuff going on. Crude, raw flavors of roasted coffee, chocolate, some burnt sugar. Needs to be aged for the real magic to happen. But that’s my opinion for almost all of Mikkeller’s beers

Bottle, shared with BBGTC, six years after bottling. Pours black, with a big, quickly dissipating, mocha head. Aroma is dark roasted malts, with coffee, leather and wooden barrels. Creamy body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is roasted malts, with coffee, tobacco, as well as heather, herbal notes and wooden barrels.

11.12.2017, 0,375l bottle (bottled 09.05.2011) sampled @ BBGTC tasting:
Nice brown slightly bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry boozy, dark malts, bark, minerals, booze, burnt sugar, burnt toast, licorice, dark sugar, hay, ashes. Taste is slightly sweet mineraly, weeds, dark sugar, oak, bark, alcohol, ashes, burnt sugar, licorice, paper. Medium bitterness, slightly watery and harsh mineraly mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Vintage 2008. Miód totalnie przejął stery. Miód, wanilia, gorzka czekolada, kawa, znów: MIÓD. Najbardziej zajebisty piwny miód. Mniam. Mniam

375 ml bottle purchased from The Wine and Cheese Place in 2010 or 2011. Opened blindly alongside all other variants. Pours a deep, nearly opaque dark brown with minimal tan head that settles into a ring. This one has notes wood, booze-soaked berries, caramel, mild roasted malts, honey, and vanilla. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a dramatically coating mouthfeel. My guess was White Wine after scratching out Rum, as I was having issues in the Wine-Cognac-Rum department and ended up getting them all mixed up. Oh well.

Tap (from old notes, not aged). Same dark mahogany color as others in the series; tan head. Roast, chocolate, and slightly sweet boozy aromas. Slight fruity sweetness, earthy, slightly grapey sweet; lighter roast, and vanilla in the flavor. Medium/thicker viscous body.

375ml bottle from the Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. Very dark black in colour with a long lasting brown head, excellent lacing. The aroma is roasty, lots of chocolate, sweet, woody, dark fruits and some alcohol. The flavour is very sweet and smooth, woody, dark chocolate, caramel, alcohol. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, sweet and warm. This is nice. The barrel aging didn’t thin this one out. Still very roasty and filling.

"first heavy hitter of the night, and it was a good one. a little on the sweet side but soooo smooth, and the cognac flavors and aroma blend so nicely with the already sweet coffee, vanilla, and honey from the stout. a treat."

Side by side with the bourbon version and to m surprise this edged it.That vinous, barrel note gave it some added complexity, that the simple though fun bourbon version lacked. These black holes are always fantastic.

Looks.. Black, sml fast dissipating tan head. Smells.. Sweet roasted sugar/caramel, choc, vanilla, oak and cognac hints. Tastes..sweet dried boozy dark fruits, sweet choc/coffee liqueur like stout character.. Cognac barrel presence at the back.
