Pours a luscious sable with a fairly thick and fluffy tan head. Aroma is absolutely heavenly - chocolate, smoked wood, licorice, malt and hints of coffee and cognac. Flavor - oh, such flavor! Smoky malt, chocolate, quality coffee, subtle notes of licorice, toffee and cognac, no surprise for the latter. Alcohol bite is firm but not overwhelming. Texture is full-bodied and then a little, fizzy and lively, leaving a tingly and smoky finish. Grab this one whilst it’s available! llkc (2323) - århus, DENMARK - JUN 11, 2014

26-AUG-2011, bottle @home, from "Superbest". Imperial Stout rating #100.
Very very dark brown with huge light brown head that coats the glass. Nose is cognac - first and most cognac. Also some roasted notes.
Taste is first cognac and then dark berries and roasted stuff like chocolate. Not burned though. Ends hoppy bitter and cognac’y. Extremely full and smooth with a tad alcohol.
Fantastic brew. daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 31, 2011

Now this was much more up my alley, after tasting the almost undrinkable scotch aged version. Much more like the regular black hole, but with added cognac, a bit sweeter. I actually wouldn’t have minded the cognac to take on a little more of the character, but this was still very well done. Does not dominate one bit. Very solid!
