Really nice beer. I am not a big fan of the regular black hole but the rum barrel is a great device. Aroma is vanilla, honey, dark fruit, and choc. Appearance in black with a tan head. Taste is fruity, honey, a little rum, and coffee on the back end. Palate is nice and creamy.
Bottle 0.375l. Cloudy, brown to black colored. AROMA- rum, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, nuts, pralines. FLAVOR- just slightly sweet, smooth bitterness, strong, but pleasant alcohol presence, rum, dark chocolate, pralines. Fuller bodied. Ascelja (1622) - Neratovice, CZECH REPUBLIC - MAR 18, 2017

Bottle. Literally black, minimal brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coconut, liqueur, coco-pralines, raisins. Taste is neutral, lightly bitter. Chocolate, coconut, pralines, alcohol, dates, roasted notes. Full body, smooth texture, low carbonation.
Very good, better balance than Bourbon edition.
Personal note: 2/4 specially selected beer for 4th wedding anniversary.
2010. Bardzo słabo się zestarzało. Mocny alkohol, wodniste, puste w smaku. Dziwne, plastikowe nuty.
phaleslu (10452) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 9, 2016
375 ml bottle purchased from The Wine and Cheese Place in 2010 or 2011. Opened blindly alongside all other variants. Pours a deep, nearly opaque dark brown with minimal tan head that settles into a ring. This one has notes of dark fruits, wood, honey, molasses, vanilla, and only a minor trace of roasted and chocolate malts. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, rich, coating mouthfeel. My guess was Cognac because I got Rum, Cognac, and the wine barrels mixed up. These are pretty similar. But it seems obvious in hindsight. ClubGonzo (5685) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 5, 2016
Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Pitch black body, no head. Aroma is wood, tar, ashes, clove, rum, caramel and hints of coffee, dark chocolate and alcohol. Taste is dry cocoa notes, alcohol, wood, bitter herbs, caramel and hints of coffee and sour vinous notes. Medium to full body, semi-parching mouthfeel, soft to non-existing carbonation. Seems over the top; both mouthfeel and carbonation is suffering and the bitter, dry cocoa tones is too dominant.

Bottle thanks to Pentaz. Black with no head. Molasses, bitter dark chocolate, wood, light earthy coffee. Slightly sticky, alcohol shows, flat carbonation. Rough, boozy. tmrmwel (2180) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 19, 2016

No head. Aroma is slightly dry mineraly, weeds, bark, minerals, oak, dark malts, dark sugar, licorice, spices, alcohol. Taste is dry sour-ish mineraly, weeds, burnt sugar, bark, oak, minerals, alcohol, spices, licorice, dark malts. Medium bitterness, dry mineraly mouthfeel, no carbonation. Fair enough.
Near black color with a tall, lasting rich tan head. Sweet coffee and vanilla scents. I seem to be thinking about tiramisu. Hints of alcohol, which remind me of a few flammable liquids I have smelled in my time. Just a bit too overpowering. As the head settles, there is a really nice sheet of lace. Starts with coconut, rum, sweet espresso, and light tropical fruit. Bitterness builds as it slides over the tongue. Has a fairly light feel, with a touch of acid. A little hot now, I can see this one really being a mellow giant in a year or better. Finish has some burnt malt and ash qualities. Definitely a sipping brew. This would handle the richest, heartiest meat or dessert. While fairly sweet, not as much as I envisioned. 2/10 ContemplateBeer (2089) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - APR 22, 2015
Bottle best by 2014, so maybe 2011? Another beer I would have never bought on my own, courtesy of my friend Jason. Aroma: Maple syrup liqueur. Super sweet and boozy. Appearance:Garnet black with a bubbly mocha skin that quickly fades. Flavor: Super sweet and boozy maple syrup liqueur. Palate: Light body, slick texture, flat carbonation, long finish. Overall: Glad I didn’t pay for this. My wife said she would give her tick a zero if she were allowed.
