On keg at the BrewDog Bar, Edinburgh. A black beer with a decent light tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and dark malts with coffee, oak and alcohol also. Flavour is a little sweet with lingering bitter chocolate and cacao nibs. Mild carbonation. Nice but not my favourite version.

375 ml bottle purchased from The Wine and Cheese Place in 2010 or 2011. Opened blindly alongside all other variants. Pours a deep, nearly opaque dark brown with minimal tan head that settles into a ring. This one has notes of dried dark fruit, fudge, caramel, wood, chocolate, and honey. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, smooth, coating mouthfeel. My guess was Red Wine, given the fruitiness and woodiness, but it was the White Wine, which seemed obvious after the fact. Tap. Foamy medium tan head, black/brown opaque body. Lots of chocolate, roast, bit of woodiness and light vinous qualities in the aroma. Flavor starts out a bit vinous, but lessens in that regard moving to toast, roasted coffee beans, some toffee sweetness, dark chocolate and a slightly sour woodiness. Medium to heavier viscous body. Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Pitch black body, small beige head. Nose is licorice, alcohol, wood, caramel, biscuits, grains and hints of tar, leather, dark syrup and black currants. Taste is dry cocoa, espesso, dark chocolate, wood and hints of dry sour grainy notes. Very sharp. Medium to full body, parching mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Bottle, 2011, shared with BBGTC. Pours black, with a very small creamy mocha head. Aroma is dark roasted malts with bread, cocoa, dark fruits, liquorice and muscovado, as well as some vanilla and leather. Medium to full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is dark roasted malts and wooden barrels with some slight sour white wine grapes, as well as dry cocoa, coffee and molasses.

Nice slightly bubbly mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet, dark sugar, dark fruits, licorice, dark malts, oak, bark, burnt sugar, minerals. Taste is slightly sour-ish sweet, weeds, licorice, dark fruits, dark sugar, dark malts, oak, minerals, alcohol, bark. Medium bitterness, slightly dry boozy mouthfeel. Nice.
Intense dark in the glass, dry fruity winey nose. The beer starts intense heavy. Deep and fresh with lots of sourish wood and dark black malt. A nice balance between woody wine and dark roasted beer. 375ml bottle from the Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. Deep black in colour with a thin tan head, good lacing. The aroma is fairly sweet and woody, some alcohol, light fruity sourness, some smoke. The flavour has some grape skin tartness to it, still lots of roasted malts, some chocolate, a bit acidic. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, sweet, acidic and roasty. This one was weird for sure. The wine barrel gives this an acidic twist. It grows on you. (Bottle) Pitch black colour with lasting, dense, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with strong black coffee, liquorice, cacao, tar, dark fruit and oak wood. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, liquorice, cacao, tar, resin and slightly tart flavours of sour grapes and white wine. Solid resiny coffee bitterness in the finish. A warming touch of alcohol shining through. Full body, slightly oily mouthfeel. A certain sweetness coming through. Aroma is thick with chocolate and coffee, with just a faint hint of its time in the wine barrels. However the bitterness from the wine really cuts through the beer , making it dangerously drinkable.
