Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Nice bottle presentation. Pours a rich dark black like a big ol stout should. Nice brown head with good retention. This baby has some viscosity! The carbonation seems a bit low, the cork didn’t really POP when it was opened. The aroma is of dark malts, dark fruit and alcohol. The taste is very robust with notes of licorice, coffee and plums. Notes of ash as well. This is a whopper of a beer but the alcohol might be a bit much as it’s hot from the start to the finish.

A positive surprise. A dry - toned down version of regular black. Dry and roasty.

Bottle Bought back in utrecht, have been on my shelf for 6 months. Pours pitch Black with tiny lasting beige head. The aroma is intense, dark fruits, coffee, caramel, vanilla. Taste is sweet and complex. Roasted malts, caramel, coffee and vanilla. Slow bitter ending, with long lasting aftertaste. Lovely beer!

Aus der Flasche 2015-12 getrunken. Fettes Teil! Röstnoten/Bitterkeit sind hier auch sehr gut durch den Honig aufeinander abgestimmt. Nur der Alkoholgehalt ist leicht spürbar. Aber immer noch ein Traum von einem Stout.

24/V/17 - 37.5cl bottle @ Erwin’s Zythology Class of 2015 Graduation Ponton Tasting - BB: n/a (2017-629) Thanks to the class for sharing the beers tonight!

Little cloudy dark brown beer, creamy irregular beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet malty, caramel, soft roast, bit dusty. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, malty, pretty sourish as well, weird enough, soft roast, caramel. Aftertaste: coffee, nice roast, sweet, caramel, some coffee, alcohol burn in the finish.

Pours black with a light beige bubbly head. Aromas of roasted malt, a sweetness, and not any coffee at all. Taste of bitter and smoky roasted malts, but that’s blunted on the back end and the honey makes itself known in an amazing way. A really nice finish to the flavor. Slightly boozy, which is to be expected for a 13% stout. Delicious.

Bottle 0.375L. Dark brown-to-black body with a huge, frothy, tan head, fully lasting with nice lacing. Moderate-to-heavy malty (roasted) and light-to-moderate hoppy (citrus) aroma with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, some vanilla, blackberry and alcohol. Moderate-to-heavy sweet and bitter flavour; long lasting finish with a sweetish character that develops into a dry coffee note. Medium-to-full body with oily-to-creamy texture; soft carbonation; light-to-moderate alcoholic warming in the finish. Very nice and complex!

Coffee, licorice, dark with a good brown head, medium/full body, carbonation is quite soft, more licorice and some ashy notes...very good.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is strange charred fruits, dark herbal elixirs, roast coffee, tobacco and leathery things. Taste is sweet dark fruits, overripe plums, tangy porter qualities. Hard to pin this beast down, got the best of me...

Backlog, tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Pours an evil looking pitch black with a brown head that lingers then dissipates. Lots of roasted cacao nib, toasted vanilla, coffee, dark fruit and faint licorice. Oily on the palate, with lots of roast. As it warms more of the fruit comes out on the palate into the finish. Warming finish, but abv hidden fairly well for how high it is.
