COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Mikkeller we have over the years done many collaboration brews. However, the last one we did was a little unusual – we collaborated with the Swedish tattoo studio Crooked Moon. The two brothers Jacob and Jonas Pedersen that run Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg wanted to celebrate their tattoo studio’s first birthday with a big party, and what could be more natural than to do it with a beer in their own name? The two brothers have designed the labels for this beer. And therefore this beer comes with two different labels. One by of Jacob, and the other by Jonas. The beer is just like a Crooked Moon tattoo: strong and powerful. In this case we are talking about a violently hoppy double IPA with 9% alcohol. You’ll find Crooked Moon / Mikkeller DIPA find on draft and bottled. The picture show the two labels – Jacob’s label design to the left and of course then, Jonas’ to the right.En dobbelt india pale ale.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, (pilsner, pale), humle (amarillo, citra, nelson sauvin, simcoe, sorachi ace), og alegær.

33 cl. bottle @ Home. Aroma: not very intense but very pleasant aromas of tropical fruits, fruits, grapefruit, maybe mango or passion fruit, citrus. No hints of alcohol in the nose. Appearance: quite deep golden to light amber color with medium hazyness. Perfectly white head with very high thickness, very high retention, medium Brussels’ lacing and creamy texture, made of big sized bubbles. Taste: low to medium sweetness, medium bitterness, low sourness. Flavors of grapefruit, tropical fruits, resin, pine. Some toasted/caramel malt overtones in the background. Balance is on the hop bitterness side with some malt sweetness as counterpart. Bitterness is quite high but not harsh nor unpleasant. Alcohol level is very well hidden, it’s not noticeable in the flavor nor in its warming effect. Palate: medium body, oily-silky texture, low to medium carbonation, long dry bitter finish (medium bitterness) of grapefruit, tropical fruits, pine, resin. Overall: excellent appearance. Not very intense aromas but quite good aromas and flavors of tropical fruits, grapefruit, fruits, resin, pine. Quite bitter but no harshness nor astringency nor too much bitterness. Quite refreshing and drinkable. Good. Not the best IPA (or DIIPA) i’ve tasted so far, but definitely a good one.

Draft at Julian’s Providence. Pours golden with a white head. Leaves trace lacing in the glass. Huge grapefruit on the nose. Lots of grapefruit and a slight biscuit thing on the tongue. Lots of bitterness on the finish. Really nice IPA from the master of extreme beer.

I think I got an old bottle. Hops taste oxidized. Aroma didn’t seem too bad. But the flavor is way off.

Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Ładny balans, dość wysoka słodowość, intensywny ananas.

nearbeer (5417) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 31, 2017
750 ml. bottle bb 19/01/18. Foggy orange pour has some turbulent bubbling action and an enduring disc of foam. Nose is orange toffee, bread and a bit of booze. Tastes of orange baby aspirin, toasted bread, caramel liqueur and a faded hop, reedy grass/wooden finish. Medium-plus body with low-medium carbonation and a decent balance. Just not much hop pop here, tastes more like a slightly hopped-up doppelbock.
