In Mikkeller we have over the years done many collaboration brews. However, the last one we did was a little unusual we collaborated with the Swedish tattoo studio Crooked Moon. The two brothers Jacob and Jonas Pedersen that run Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg wanted to celebrate their tattoo studios first birthday with a big party, and what could be more natural than to do it with a beer in their own name? The two brothers have designed the labels for this beer. And therefore this beer comes with two different labels. One by of Jacob, and the other by Jonas. The beer is just like a Crooked Moon tattoo: strong and powerful. In this case we are talking about a violently hoppy double IPA with 9% alcohol. Youll find Crooked Moon / Mikkeller DIPA find on draft and bottled. The picture show the two labels Jacobs label design to the left and of course then, Jonas to the right.En dobbelt india pale ale.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, (pilsner, pale), humle (amarillo, citra, nelson sauvin, simcoe, sorachi ace), og alegr.

Bottle. Cloudy orange with medium foamy white head. Sweet aroma of orange peel, coriander, tangerine, fresh orange juice, grapefruit. Taste goes from medium heavy bitter, medium to heavy sweetsweet, tangerine mouthfeel. Heavy body, creamy texture, sweet and bitter finish.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Murky orange, big light tan head. Delicate caramel malt aroma, lots of different hop notes - the traditional citrus, culinary herbs (dill?), fresh figs, dried apples, grape skin. It is incredibly drinkable for its abv, without being sweet and even without lots of balancing bitterness. The flavour also has figs and apple. Thee finish is light bitter with a touch of warming alcohol. A different kind of DIPA.

330ml bottle pours a cloudy golden orange color with a finger of white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is tropical fruits with some citrus and some dusty notes. Taste is a tropical fruity sweetness with a light citrus hop bitterness finishing dry and dusty. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Overall, this is a strange DIPA that just seems to be very messy and not put together well. A bit of a disappointing brew from a brewery that very seldom lets me down.

dark amber with peach and mango on nose, full bodied, quite hot, boozy, brash, not well integrated and ultimately a drain pour.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2015 Taplines probably werent cleaned well the first time I had this, so I gave it another shot. Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Hazy copper color with a one-finger soapy head. Orange marmalade, apricot, biscuits and honey on the nose. Sweet on the palate with some light grass and wood that comes out as it warms. No more paint thinner. Still too sweet for me, but didnt taste off. Nice if you like sweet, full bodied barley wine territory encroaching Double IPAs. Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Hazy rusty orange with a nice soapy head. Aromas of papaya and apple with some dried apricot. Also a bit of paint thinner on the nose as well as it warms (Oxidized maybe?). Fairly sweet with a lot of wood that comes on as well. Finishes with some bitterness. Not in the best condition I suppose.

Opalescent deep golden (6-8 EBC) with a pillowy dark off white head, good lacings. Aromas of alcohol-aromatic drenched pineapple, mirabelles and strawberries, spruce and some toffee develop. Fine CO2 propelled, mild slick and full bodied. But burnt toffee sweetness, alcohol aromatic fruits some herbal impressions with a developping solid bitterness even light astringency. Lasting finish.

Lots of apples and mangoes with oranges. Smooth fairly hoppy. A bit to much woodiness and very yeasty

Taster showing cloudy amber and a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows mango and sweet malts. The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of apple and lightly sweet malts. Slight notes of oak and vanilla. Slight sharp IPA bitterness.

Bottle at home. Pours a murky, dull orange color with a big, beige head. Compact aroma with almonds, alcohol, toffee, grass and leather. Some tropical fruits in the background. The flavor is similar with a little more tropical fruits coming through. Theres also a great malty part in the middle before a heavy and grassy bitterness lingers in the end. Is full-bodied with a slick and soft mouth feel, and a heavy bitterness. There so much stuff in this DIPA but all feels like a big mess and its hard separate the different flavors. A very hoppy ale and feels a bit unbalanced.
