UPDATED: DEC 2, 2015 Taplines probably weren’t cleaned well the first time I had this, so I gave it another shot. Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Hazy copper color with a one-finger soapy head. Orange marmalade, apricot, biscuits and honey on the nose. Sweet on the palate with some light grass and wood that comes out as it warms. No more paint thinner. Still too sweet for me, but didn’t taste off. Nice if you like sweet, full bodied barley wine territory encroaching Double IPAs. Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Hazy rusty orange with a nice soapy head. Aromas of papaya and apple with some dried apricot. Also a bit of paint thinner on the nose as well as it warms (Oxidized maybe?). Fairly sweet with a lot of wood that comes on as well. Finishes with some bitterness. Not in the best condition I suppose. McWorta (1627) - LUXEMBOURG - SEP 3, 2015
Opalescent deep golden (6-8 EBC) with a pillowy dark off white head, good lacings. Aromas of alcohol-aromatic drenched pineapple, mirabelles and strawberries, spruce and some toffee develop. Fine CO2 propelled, mild slick and full bodied. But burnt toffee sweetness, alcohol aromatic fruits some herbal impressions with a developping solid bitterness even light astringency. Lasting finish. Lots of apples and mangoes with oranges. Smooth fairly hoppy. A bit to much woodiness and very yeasty jc1762 (1370) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 29, 2015
Taster showing cloudy amber and a finger of clean white foam.
The nose shows mango and sweet malts.
The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of apple and lightly sweet malts. Slight notes of oak and vanilla. Slight sharp IPA bitterness. Foffern (1845) - Bodø, NORWAY - AUG 14, 2015
Bottle at home. Pours a murky, dull orange color with a big, beige head. Compact aroma with almonds, alcohol, toffee, grass and leather. Some tropical fruits in the background. The flavor is similar with a little more tropical fruits coming through. There’s also a great malty part in the middle before a heavy and grassy bitterness lingers in the end. Is full-bodied with a slick and soft mouth feel, and a heavy bitterness. There so much stuff in this DIPA but all feels like a big mess and it’s hard separate the different flavors. A very hoppy ale and feels a bit unbalanced.

I love DIPAs when they work like this. Like the film "From Dusk Till Dawn". The first half is interesting, slow building with a hint of menace - the nose and early taste are bursting with fruit, and unlike some in the style the fruit stays light and citrus rather than being pulled into a more cloying sweetness by the alcohol. And then halfway through - all hell breaks loose. Complete mayhem - bitter, bitter, bitter. Medium body, good mouthfeel, looks like a DIPA should with quality lacing. First Mikkeller beer I didn’t absolutely love. Too much alcohol hid the great complexity of this beer. There’s everything in it, but I couldn’t appreciate it, the alcohol spoiled it IMHO. BeerBaboon (2083) - FINLAND - JUL 26, 2015
Pours clear gold with white head. Aroma is fruity and pine. Flavour is medium to heavy bitter, medium sweet, fruity and pine.
