In Mikkeller we have over the years done many collaboration brews. However, the last one we did was a little unusual – we collaborated with the Swedish tattoo studio Crooked Moon. The two brothers Jacob and Jonas Pedersen that run Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg wanted to celebrate their tattoo studio’s first birthday with a big party, and what could be more natural than to do it with a beer in their own name? The two brothers have designed the labels for this beer. And therefore this beer comes with two different labels. One by of Jacob, and the other by Jonas. The beer is just like a Crooked Moon tattoo: strong and powerful. In this case we are talking about a violently hoppy double IPA with 9% alcohol. You’ll find Crooked Moon / Mikkeller DIPA find on draft and bottled. The picture show the two labels – Jacob’s label design to the left and of course then, Jonas’ to the right.En dobbelt india pale ale.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, (pilsner, pale), humle (amarillo, citra, nelson sauvin, simcoe, sorachi ace), og alegær.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm, 19 Jan 2013) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of citrus peel, grapefruit, resin, a touch of caramel and orange marmalade. Fruity, hoppy taste with orange peel, marmalade, grapefruit, some caramel and a solid bitterness with resinous hops. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite powerful with a generous hop profile. Excellent beer.

33cl, as Crooked Moon dIPA, new exclusive Danish brew Anno 2012, from Geers Oostakker, very complex bitter brew, bitter/woody and slightly alcoholic/fruity, balanced, cloudy, good head, very good brew, yet expensive!

On tap. Aroma very heavy with hops, mostly grassy notes. Some malts is hiding under this avalance of hops. Taste is -as expected- raw and unpolished with lots and lots of hops. Grassy notes and catpiss.

Bottle from Ølbutikken (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Average off-white head. Sticks around. Aroma is grassy and very citrus, though little of that is evident in the taste. It’s very bitter, but goes down easily. I think it’s better than it’s given credit for, although with Mikkeller I expect something that stands out a bit more. It’s a very typical IIPA.

Draft. Pours hazy orange with a small off white head. Aroma is as hop soup of peach, pine, grapes, fresh oil, pineapple, citrus, grass and caramel. Taste is moderate+ sweet and bitter. Body is medium+, texture is oily, carbonation is average. Finishes herbal.

Toerstig (47) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - JAN 9, 2013
On tap. Hazy golden with thick white head. Somewhat floral and grassy on the nose but also some vague hints of something a bit off which I just can’t put my finger on. Grassy hoppiness in taste. Medium bitter for a DIPA with a medium body, soft carbonation and an ok lingering bitter finish.
