In Mikkeller we have over the years done many collaboration brews. However, the last one we did was a little unusual – we collaborated with the Swedish tattoo studio Crooked Moon. The two brothers Jacob and Jonas Pedersen that run Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg wanted to celebrate their tattoo studio’s first birthday with a big party, and what could be more natural than to do it with a beer in their own name? The two brothers have designed the labels for this beer. And therefore this beer comes with two different labels. One by of Jacob, and the other by Jonas. The beer is just like a Crooked Moon tattoo: strong and powerful. In this case we are talking about a violently hoppy double IPA with 9% alcohol. You’ll find Crooked Moon / Mikkeller DIPA find on draft and bottled. The picture show the two labels – Jacob’s label design to the left and of course then, Jonas’ to the right.En dobbelt india pale ale.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, (pilsner, pale), humle (amarillo, citra, nelson sauvin, simcoe, sorachi ace), og alegær.

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Changkat, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a cloudy light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is big citrus fruit, hops and alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a big crisp, fruity, alcohol, light floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A big hoppy alcohol bomb for sure but there is thankfully no burn.

9%ABV. double IPA. Tapped out cloudy Amber. 8ºSRM. Nose is heavily spicy and alcoholic with the the juniper of gin. Pine and dark resin. There is a sweet almost lactic aroma that suggests sweet yogurt or honeyed milk. There is also cinnamon, nutmeg, five spice. There is also a nice ume plum sour with a preserved, medicinal dryness. Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate is spicy with nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander, chilies, curry powder. Strong resinous aromas and palate almost like drinking in freshly curing epoxy. Hops are bitter and spicy. The grain palate has some nice sweet ripe figs, dates and raisin sweetness. Finish is medium for hops and long on alcohol. Funky funky funky. Not my thing, but I don’t want to discourage experimentation.

Solid DIPA. Fruity, bitter, long fnish... not a whole lot of say. Pretty standard fare, but done with the usual Mikkeller quality.

elbernays (1679) - Dublin, IRELAND - JUN 18, 2016
Bottle from mchughs. Pours cloudy orange with bubbly white head. Candy, bubblegum, spice, boozy nose. Flavor is is sweet bubblegum, some pepper on finish. Dry mild bitter finish. Syrup, heavy mouthfeel. Little bit of a herbal finish. Not mad on this.

AirForceHops (7796) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - JUN 16, 2016
Draft at When Pigs Fly. Hazy golden/ amber color, thin head. Aroma is a nice blend of pine and tropical fruits. Thankfully this never becomes overly sweet like many Imperial IPA’s can become. The fruity hops hit the palate 1st and then a transition into a deep lasting pine in the finish. The only negative is the ABV is rather noticeable. Still all elements considered it is a nicely constructed hop bomb.

GuideDogSaint (1748) - Xiamen, CHINA - JUN 9, 2016
Taste from a 330ml bottle at Beer Station, Xiamen courtesy of Lulu. Pours yellow orange with a white head. aroma of malt and tropical fruit. Bittersweet finish.

jaghana (6278) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - MAY 31, 2016
Bottle 33cl, cloudy copper beer, nose is intense on hop resin, tropical fruits and vegetables. Aroma is quite strong on hop resin, berries fruits, pine, alcohol is burning, high bitterness especially at the finish, bit harsh, long aftertaste duration.
