Thin but durable foam appears when gently pouring from this gold wrapped bottle from Mikkeller. It has a very vinous aroma where little cherry stands out. The taste is rich, thick, inter alia, roasted malt, prune and cherry. In its heavy fruit nuances and vinous complexity appears also a hint of dark chocolate. Estimates protracted fruity aftertaste with warming alcohol to follow. Certainly a beer that should be enjoyed for a real gourmet dinner. The very vinous character and distinct flavor of alcohol in the final, causes it to protrude slightly from its beer style as dubbel. I think the closer acts as a cross a dubbel and a Belgian quadrupel. So if you expect a good full dubbel you should maybe choose something else, for Mikkeller has once again challenged the usual expectations and created something ground-breaking.

20/IX/14 - 37.5cl bottle from De Hopduvel @ Klaas place - BB: "imorgen" (2014-1019)

Note: ridiculously expensive!
Clear dark amber to red brown beer, aery irregular fizzy beige head, unstable, dissipates quickly. Aroma: very oxidized, lots of caramel, sherry notes, bit nutty, port, alcohol. MF: soft to no carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of milk chocolate, caramel, bit sugary, soft bitterness, bit lemony, sour. Aftertaste: very oxidized, caramel, nutty, lots of chocolate, little bitter, alcohol, sugary. Damn, I bought this bottle like 3 years ago, but apparently the beer was already 2 years old, then... To conclude: NEVER, EVER, EVER do this again, just put (preferably bottle) dates on bottles, all right? Kthnxbye!

Murky dark brown body with an off white head. Strong roasted malty nutty aroma with caramel, brown sugar, dried fruits, spices. Full, highly alcoholic palate with little carbonation. Strong alcoholic flavour with caramel, bread, nuts, and a bit of dark chocolate with a light bitter finish. A great one.
