From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours black with a thick tan head. Toasted oak nose. Flavors of vanilla, oak, toasted nuts and a hint of maple. Medium to heavy bodied with moderate carbonation. Roasty, slightly sweet, slightly bitter, finish.

Bottle. Aroma is chocolate, alcohol, maple syrup and barrel. Taste adds some coffee grounds and amplifies the maple. Palate is thick and syrupy. Big and tasty.

Prufrockstar (2259) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - NOV 7, 2013
Bottle. Thanks, T! Aroma of roast, smoke, weed; thick, roasty, slick, oily, roasty finish, choc, syrup; appearance is appropriately that of a Danish imperial porter. Nice!

mcberko (18998) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 29, 2013
375mL bottle, pours black with a large foamy beige / tan head. Nose brings out toasted nuts, maple syrup, wood and some coffee. Flavour brings out very complex notes of coffee, subtle maple syrup, dry burnt wood, and roasted malt. Everything is in beautiful balance here, including the maple syrup barrels which I don’t normally like. Very dry, roasted and subtle sweet beer here. Excellent stuff.

jesperhammer (4926) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - OCT 28, 2013
25-OCT-2013, bottle @Ulkløbben meeting, @Morten. Black with lasting tan head. Aroma is coffee roast and sweet brown sugar. Taste the same with more malts. Not really as hoppy as most Mikkeller? Medium body, well hidden alcohol. OK.

gyllenbock (9878) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 28, 2013
Bottle at Mikkeller & Friends, October 2013. Black with a medium, creamy tan head. Aroma and taste of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, nuts and something sweet (Maple Syrup?). I liked the creamy mouthfeel in this beer. Smooth and relaxed.

Bottle from Star Grocery, Berkeley. Pours near black with a huge tan head and a treacle and syrup aroma. There is an intense dark molasses flavor with lots of black coffee and a hint of maple. Very tasty.

bhensonb (15765) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 25, 2013
Bottle from Whole Foods in Folsom, CA. Pours very dark brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and brown sugar. Full bodied, or nearly. There’s some heat. There’s coffee and brown sugar and chocolate and arguably astringent wood. Maple? Hard to say. Pretty tasty stuff. Finishing just off dry. Think I’m finally getting maple.

375 ml bottle to snifter. Pours black with a huge, soft, pillowy head that fades normally and leaves some lacing. Strong and complex aroma of maple, vanilla, coffee beans, coconut, chocolate, burnt oak, and cola. Taste starts moderately sweet with lots of barrel character, maple syrup, and chocolate cake. Middle is strong bitter coffee and cola. Finishes with burnt oak, booze and coffee beans. Love this beer. Only downside is the thin body, but it’s a porter so I expected it. Mouthfeel is oily and a little creamy. Great beer, I’ve been liking a lot of Mikkeller lately. Wish the bottles were cheaper though.
