Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours murky pitch black with a huge frothy brownish beige head that slowly dissipates while leaving some thick lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, maple syrup, peppery wood, dark roast coffee, butterscotch hard candy, hay, moist soil, salty liquorice candy, burnt caramel and bitter chocolate. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, maple syrup, bitter chocolate, brown sugar sweetened dark roast coffee, resinous wood, pine needles, minerals, moist soil, burnt caramel, vanilla fudge, toffee and alcohol. Mouthfeel is round, tiny sticky sweet, boozy, tiny roasted astringent and medium to full bodied. finish is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, charred wood, hay, sweet liquorice candy and hints of maple syrup. Quite good...

Bottle for 100th Imperial/strong porter rating. Pours very dark brown with brown head. Nose and taste of maple syrup, wood, coffee, crunchy roasted nuts, vanilla cookie, roast chocolate and earth. A touch chalky. Medium body.

Nearly black pour with a huge fluffy tan head with thick lacing. Much lighter than expected aroma of maple syrup and light chocolate. Well coated lightly chewy palate. Hot flavor alcohols and light chocolate a good amount of pine and alpha hops. OK but disappointing. Might be good in a couple years.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin. Very deep brown color, nearly black once it’s in the glass with a mocha-cream head on top that quickly disperses to a thin ring around the edges. Aroma has notes of whiskey, lightly tart black currants, mild roasted malt, faint cocoa dust, & a touch of sweetness coming from somewhere. Don’t get much (if any) maple syrup on the nose. Taste is more robust & a little less sweet than the aroma would indicate. Bourbon/whiskey again, very forward, with tannic oak, dark chocolate, & finally a good hint of lightly sweet maple syrup leading into a finish with licorice, mild cola, wood, & faint nuts. It’s on the thin side for a 10% ABV porter, but it’s not too detrimental. I would have liked a larger maple syrup presence, both in the aroma & the flavor, but still a very nice beer altogether.

375. Thanks, M! Pours a heavy and opaque jet black with a dense and creamy tan head. Odd sweet nose; there’s residual sugar competing with a nice natural maple scent. The maple is complex and there’s a surprisingly tart hint in the background that throws things off. Not an infection, not metallic. Smells like something from the maple I would say. But it keeps it from being a coherent beer. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Roasty sweet malt sugar with intense maple syrup on the mid palate. Long tangy sweet finish.

Have to say that adding a splash of St Bernardus Abt 12 to this took it from being a nice curiosity to being a near-masterpiece.

Bottle @ Odense Beer & Ball Saturday - Real Madrid vs. Valladolid. Dark brown body with a small light brown head. Roasted malt, bitter coffee, caramel, oak. Sweet toffee end.

Pours to a really deep brown body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is black patent malt with tons of maple syrup. Rich maple and bitter black patent flavor. Rich but bitter palate.

Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Black pour with a brown head. The aroma and flavor have some big, heavy roasted malt notes as well as some chocolate and a bit of pine, or some other resinous, dank note. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle at "Darkness comes to town", 131116. Pitch black beer with a nice beige head. Malty caramel aroma, roasted, fruity, chocolate, some hay. Vinous fruity flavor, caramel, hay, raisins. Slightly thin bodied. Not the way I want my porter.
