Enjoyed some of this big bottle at the Crooked Stave / Zwanze Day party. Generously shared by Andre the man. Super dark pour and a nose of roast coffee, chocolate mousse and vanilla. Flavorful stuff too - mostly dark chocolate and espresso flavors, with a roasted, bready backbone. Sticky sweet finish and lingering aftertaste. Big props to Andre for sharing this beauty.... cubs (10635) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - DEC 4, 2012
Bottle @ Crooked Stave Zwanze Day 2012, shared by bardwashrind. Thanks so much, Andre! Pours a deep brown appearance with a brown head. Delicious, toasty dark chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, anise, a bit fruity, mostly dark chocolate aroma. Delicious baker’s cocoa, milk chocolate, mild roasty coffee flavor with just a bit of hops still remaining. Really a nice beer. Thanks again, Andre! Pour from bottle at Zwanze Day 2012 at the Barrel Cellar, courtesy of Andre. Thanks man!! Appearance is deep, deep brown, almost black with a huge brown head. Anise, wood, black licorice, light cocoa, coffee, and dark fruits in the aroma. Taste is big dark chocolate, spice, somewhat peaty, dark fruits, and wood; slightly oxidized, but has still held up really well. Medium body with big carbonation. Really cool beer to try. @ Mikkeller Bar: Trevlig fyllig smak med lite lätt brända toner. Mjuk och fin balans med en mycket len eftersmak.

Bottle, shared with a bunch of people at Bergen Ølfestival afterparty at my place, including Yngwie, Beer3000, Palme and the rest of Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. :-) Pitch black body, big creamy beige head. Nose is licorice, chocolate, coffee and hints of roasty malt sugar tones. Taste is toasty ash tones, dark chocolate, coffee and hints of leather. Full body, medium to soft carbonation. Very nice indeed. fletchfighters (1532) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 28, 2012
A-- Poured a dark cola color, settled black with just touches of ruby. Big, three finger mocha colored head. Great head retention and left lots of streaky and spotty lacing as dissipated to a thick film and collar. Nice looking beer.
S-- Lots of roast, coffee and chocolate. underneath get some dark fruits and earthiness from the hops. has held up quite well for a 2 year beer.
T-- Earthy, grainy dark fruit followed by coffee and chocolate. Slightly thin at first but picks up quickly and eliminates that gap. Good amount of earthy bitterness to this.
M-- Medium bodied and lighter medium carbonated. Get flashes of coffee acidity in the back but this is about chocolate, roasted malts and coffee in the mid palate. Nice long lasting feel to this. .
O-- When Mikkeller hits it he hits it big, when misses... you get the idea. This is a hit. Well made porter. Well hidden ABV and easy to drink. issue with this is the 1.5 L bottle. Share with friends and have a good time. Try this alone and this will get to be a bit much. Really solid US style porter that regrettably did not make the US. Would easily have again. Bottle, magnum-sized @ thanks, Palle. Pitch black beer with a brown hue and a frothy, mostly lasting beige head. Roasted aroma of liquorice, dark chocolate, coffee and caramel. Flavor is bitterswwet and roasted with liquorice, dark chocolate and resiny hops. Roasted malt bitterness, slight acidic note, full body, creamy texture, lingering dry hoppy finish.
