from Erzbierschof.ch - black beer under a solid and long lasting dark creamy beige foam; nice lace; robust aroma of cocoa and black chocolate; very roasted and with some hop presence; notes of walnuts; full-bodied and very tasty; a subtle yet solid carbonation; a robust bitterness in top of some sweetness; velvety mouthfeel; very long and very bitter roasted coffeish and chocolatey aftertaste along with nutty, piney, woody and hoppy notes - a tremendous and highly complex beer !

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2011 Bottle at CPK thanks to Tom. Pours black-brown with an enormous, beige head. Boozy cocoa nose, some roast, a bit of peat. Flavor is rich, sweet, with tangy roast, peat, dry cocoa, slight alcohol and burnt sugar. Full in body with average to lively carbonation. Warming finish with chocolate malt roast, peat, faint earth and grass. Lingering dry, cocoa roast. Delicious and not too over-the-top. (4.3) Bottle at CBC during RBESG 2011. Pours black-brown with a huge, beige head. Boozy, dark chocolate nose, light roast, some dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor, lots of mocha, some coffee beans, mild alcohol presence. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Mild warming finish, dry cocoa, subtle mocha, hints of booze. Great mocha character. Great balance. (4.3)

Bottle that Tom very kindly plonked on the table at the Cask & KItchen, Pimlico, London, 4th June 2011 Pours dark brown with tan head. Rush of lovely dark cocoa and then a significan touch of roasty coffee, sweet but quite lovely very full in the mouth with hops starting to zing about. Marvellous stuff, Big thanks to Tom for this. Dark brown/black, brown head. Aroma has coffee, liquorice, heavy roast and cocoa beans. Taste has roast, coffee, cocoa, chocolate. Pretty good balance, a little rough but it softens up nicely with temp.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. I must say my expectations for this were quite high and I have been looking forward to this one for a long time now. Had at the Mane Liquor Meeting. Pours a deep, dark brown with a big, fluffy tan head - a good three fingers in width. Nose is pleasant and hoppy. Roasted coffee, chocolate and hops. LOads of chocolate and hops in the taste. Thick chocolate holds its presence with a solid dose of hops finishing the beer off. Amazing ! Delivers in every way although wasn’t expecting such a big hop presence, which isn’t bad at all mind you. Will gladly have again despite the price tag
