Bottle. Black with a thin dark brown creamy head. Huge cognac, tobacco, leather, burnt grain, and chocolate aroma. Thick chewy and sticky palate. Tastes of candied citrus, chocolate, earthy burnt grain up front transitioning to tart cognac and a green apple at mid palate and finishing dry with leather and raisin flavors. Very good. Dark brown or almost black. Aromas of vanilla, coffee and chocolate. A mouthful is very smooth and nice and has a creamy feel bluejacket74 (1996) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - AUG 17, 2013
8.5 ounce bottle. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours very dark brown/black with a thin dark brown head that fizzled away quickly. There’s a small amount of lacing. The brew smells like dark fruit, roasted/burnt malt, booze (cognac), and bittersweet chocolate. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, except with the addition of some milk chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and has moderate carbonation. I think it’s a good brew, but at $15.99 for that little bottle I wouldn’t buy it again at that price. With that being said, I think it’s definitely worth trying. Bottle to glass. Extremely dark brown in color, almost black but not quite, with a very thin rim of brown head. Aroma is burnt malts with a decent port-like alcoholic note. Flavor is a burnt malt bitterness with a smooth alcohol burn. With the cognac kick, it tastes higher in alcohol than it really is, although 12.1 ain’t shabby. Thick and creamy mouth feel with almost no carbonation, but not flat. Awesome beer. alexsdad06 (11571) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - AUG 15, 2013
Small bottle shared with a small group. Pours dark brown to black with a thin tan head. The aroma has dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, ample barrel character, caramel. The flavor has more of the same; roast, dark chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, cognac, char, thick syrupy mouth feel, smooth, complex. Very good.

On tap at Mikkeller Bar SF. It pours jet black with a nice brown head. The aroma is all over the place with chocolate, fudge, plum, raisin, mild barrel notes and alcohol. The flavor is big and sweet up front with cherry, raisins, roasted malt, wood and charred embers. Very complex, but bordering on messy. This was a treat, but I think I liked the Bourbon George better. Valgreen (814) - DENMARK - AUG 11, 2013
Bottle @ home, 12/8 2013. Pours pitch black tar like with beautiful small tan head, with nice lacing. Aroma, roasted malts, lots of chocolate notes, a vanilla sweetness, alcohol, cognac, . Taste, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, warming alcohol taste, cognac. Aftertaste of chocolate and alcohol/cognac. Oaky oily mouth feel in the end. Not a lot of carbonation. The aroma is better than taste. DocJitsu (2100) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - AUG 10, 2013
UPDATED: AUG 11, 2013 Pours a beautiful very dark brown with an extraordinarily dark mocha head. Chocolate maple bacon on the nose. Very thick mouthfeel. Chocolate covered raisins, fat, and cherry flavors. The mouthfeel at the finish is like having just swallowed chocolate ice cream. ClubGonzo (5683) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 10, 2013
Bottle from bieresgourmet.be webshop. Pours a pitch black body with a small caramel-hued light brown head. Nose is coffee, licorice, wood, alcohol, hints of cognac and dark berries. Taste is mocca, dark chocolate, licorice, hints of wood, cocoa and thick cereals in the back. Full creamy body, very soft carbonation. Really good stuff. The BA profile doesn’t come out much but it’s still a very nice beer. Lore (3067) - Budapest, HUNGARY - AUG 9, 2013
very dark coffe-like colour, minimal dark brown head; aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, some coffee and significant amount of cognac; taste of roasted coffe and malt, dark chocolate and cognac again; very complex, very good imperial stout - it would be one of my favourite if I were a stout-fan.
