Bottle from the Bierkoning. Not sure why I hadnt rated this before. Oily black pour with thin receding brown head. Aroma is so rich and decadent, potent dark chocolate aromas, roast coffee notes, boozy, but invitingly so. Taste is sweet, roasty, so rich, mellow, rich boozy notes, toffee, coffee, dark chocolate, never too bitter, never too sweet. Palate is rich, syrupy with a thin silver lining of carbonation that does just enough to aid drinkability without interfering with the cozy mouth-warming feel. Really, really nice stout.

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2015 Blind RIS experiment [Sample 10/20, 4/20/2015] Bottom pours thick sludge, but first half glass is fine. Dark, minimal ring of head, no lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, soy -- not unlike the gyoza dipping sauce I now crave. BBQ, charred roasted meat. This beast smells big, sweet, and meaty, spiked with chili pepper. Yeah, the ancho/chipotle chili combo is what Im tasting, even if its not an ingredient. Taste follows, pretty much as expected. Alcohol strong in the finish; this makes me think sweet BBQ sauce spread thick on a hunk of slowly roasting meat. This has gotta be Mikkeller or Evil Twin for sure. Taste makes me think ET, but sludge makes me think Mikkeller ... obviously I have positive associations here, eh? Full body, thick viscous texture. Overall: this would not be a "regular" or "all occasions" imperial stout, but under some circumstances I could see myself being in the mood for this. Hard to give it a score that makes sense relative to the others because of this -- like, it could be a 5 or 8 depending on mood and I dont know a person can just give an "objective" score to something like that. Because it can be downright unappealing, and I think theres a good chance that some of these aspects ("meat" / "soy" / "chili") could rightfully be considered flaws. But it makes up for it with intensity, so if anybody reads these words know my score is best interpreted as 3.7-4.0. By the end of the glass the intensity is too much, and this may drop back down to 3.7, and it could go lower. Its too sweet, too salty, too roasty, too everything for a full glass (unless youre in the mood to drink BBQ sauce). [8/4/7/4/14]

Draft at Uber. Pours dark, thick, almost purple in the right light (by which I mean beneath a neon sign). Tan head, good retention. Aroma: rich. Chocolate at the forefront. Deep roast, almost smoky. Meat, leather, tobacco and a bit of soy sauce. Taste: meaty - thick and viscous, surprisingly not sweet -- intense bitterness, like somebody baked fudge brownies but forgot most of the sugar. Long roasty bitter finish. Chili peppers and teriyaki as well. Pretty fucking intense. Palate: thick, viscous, chewy. Overall: an over the top imperial stout. Can only imagine how hardcore the barrel-aged versions are.

Sample 5 of 13 in a blind imperial stout tasting. Beautiful brown head. Small short lived head. Thick, dark black pour. Roasty, dark, thick, bitter. Potent. Fuck yeah, this is what I want. Full body. Slick texture. Lightly drying, bitter roast. Spicy, almost ashy. Yes. 8/4/8/4/16.

Bottle. Pitchblack, small fast dissapearing line of white foam. Aroma of roast, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, hops. Taste is sweet and carramel, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, liquiorice a bit of smoke and a little bit of bitterness. Raw and delicious Imperial Stout.

11.2 oz bottle purchased at State Line, and shared with Huhzubendah. Pours a black with light barely passing as a focused ruby hue. Aroma is smoky roasted malt, chocolate and anise. Flavor is rich and complex: dark roasted malts, chocolate, cigar, tobacco, and anise. A great beer and a night ender!

Woo hoo looking forward to this one. Thanks Dave. The beer appears near black with a half inch of head the color of wet sand on the beach. Aromas include dark chocolate, a large malt bill, Danish roast. Super malty and thick with a healthy roasted malt presence, followed by bitter chocolates and a touch of warming heat in the finish. Cognac George is one of my favorite stouts, and while this beer lacks that amazing complexity, its still damn good.

(Bottle). Wonderfully pleasant and rich aroma of dark chocolate, dried fruit, barrel aging and brown sugar. The taste is great with flavors of chocolate, fruit, roasted malt and oaked vanilla notes. Warming alcohol in the finish, but maybe a bit too intrusive. An impressive beer!

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Hopduvel. Very oily pitch-black with only a small mocha film for head. Nose is very thick roasted coffee, molasses, lots of bitter coffee, molasses, substantial roast, black liquorish. Taste is lots of coffee liquor, strong roast, black liquorish, quite roasted, coffee beans, very warming, lingering bitter roast aftertaste. Thick coffee liquor feel to it. Not as stellar as the BA versions and probably more roasted than I prefer my RIS, very outstanding & different never the less. Makes me think a bit of Mikkeller Black with some age on it but this is a far balanced & superior version of that one.

Bottle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Clear aroma of roasted malt, coffee and liquorice. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, chocolate, and coffee, complemented by touches of fruit and pronounced roasty notes. Lingering roasty aftertaste. Warming alcohol presence. Rich body and creamy mouthfeel. Really good.
