Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a dark brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a fairly slow pace. Lace was somewhat messy.
The aroma had some roasted malts, milk and dark chocolate, some butterscotch, dark bread, and dark fruits.
The flavor seemed to moderate fairly nice between the roast and the sweet. Added in a little bit of cake sweetness and seemed to follow through in the aftertaste and finish.
The palate was just a pinch under medium bodied with a decent sessionable quality about it. Yes, I said sessionable for an Imperial stout because the 12% didn’t feel like that. To me, felt closer to 7 to 6 %. Carbonation did feel fine in this.
Overall, there’s so many RIS’s are the market these days, and this doesn’t seem like one I would "need" to have again. the_beergery (262) - - MAY 18, 2017
330 ml bottle. Appearance is that of a standard imperial stout - deep midnight black with a thin layer of tan froth with poor retention. The aroma is heavenly -
espresso coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, dried fruits. Taste is just as impressive - rich, dark and expensive chocolate, dried fruits like raisins, prunes and cherries, very muted notes of coffee, and surprisingly a bourbon like booziness even though this is not the bourbon-barrel aged variant. The high alcohol content is kept well under wraps amidst all these flavours and the oily, smooth, chewy and thick mouthfeel. 11.2oz bottle pours a thick black color with a bit of head. Not sure on age, but at least a couple of years old. Nice balance of hops and malt. Silky smooth and not too sweet.

22 oz bottle shared with ebone1988. The pour is a lighter black with a thick bubbly light tan head and a few spots of soapy lace as it falls. The aroma is relatively plain. There is a strong roastiness about it and a hint of dark fruits and a touch of chocolate. It’s bitter and light without a lot of complexity or depth. The flavor is much of the same. The light roastiness and a hint of chocolate don’t really do a whole lot. The fruits fade and it’s just roasty and bitter. The mouth feel is light and slick with a sharper carbonation and a lingeringly bitter roast on the finish. Bottle shared with koleminer20. Aroma is robust, roasted malt, chocolate, bitter, slight smoke. Appearance is dark dark brown, light tan head, poured thin. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, dark fruit, coffee, slightly sweet, sharp, pretty good. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy body, oily, roasted malt dark chocolate booze aftertaste. Overall, this one is good but I can’t help but expecting more for the hype.

2017/04/15 - Pours a thick, jet black colour with a thick, foamy, tan head the slowly reduces and leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, roasted smokey malts, licorice, tobacco, molasses and ash. Taste is sweet chocolate and molasses, booze, roasted malt, ash and alcohol with hints of tobacco, licorice and vanilla. Mouthfeel is thick and oily with smooth carbonation and a long bittersweet, warming finish. Sweet, smokey and boozy without being cloying or overbearing.
