Tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Cph.
Pours completely black with a lovely, creamy, beige head that leaves light laces on my glass. Aroma is smokey, sweet, roasted, dark chcolate and only a hint of viniousness. Medium carbonation, fine creamy mouthfeel. Flavour begins with some roasted and blackberry tartness, then turn dry and roasted with lots of dark chocolate. The relatively high tartness surprises, but doesn’t detracts as it makes it far more drinkable. Lingering, bitter dry roasted finish. Nice.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2011 Tab @ CBF. Opaque black pour with a thick deep brown head, rather viscous. The nose has lots of coffe and roast, espresso, dark fruits, motor oil. The taste is amazing. Lots of coffee, hops, bitter chocolate, hints of berry sweetness. High viscousity, oily texture, very thick, soft, but lively carbonation, big body. Excellent. Re-rate, about 8 months of age: Even more complex than I remember. Aroma is thick with dark fruits and hard roasted malts and coffee. Delicious vanilla and raisin sweetness. Taste is thick with chocolate fudge and dark fruits. Coffee finish, the hops don’t stand out very clearly. Very complex and nice balanced. But still a HUGE beer.

MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 6, 2010
A Sim rate (on tap at Mikkeller Bar): Rich aroma of ground coffee beans, rich dark chocolate & a bit of burnt toast. Sweet toffiness covered in a soy-saucy saltiness. I could smell that all day! Dark, opaque black appearance with a dark brown head that shows this beer means trouble. Flavour makes you wince at first sip with an alcohol that hits you like a baseball bat. But when it calms down, the dark chocolate & coffee roastiness sets in. Dried fruit (plum, blackberry, cherry) beat down the palate making way for a rush of deep, naughty cocoa. The finish just goes on for days...nevr ending before I demand another sip. Really excellent, addictive stuff.
