Mikkellers tribute to the green gold.

Scipio's rating

Scipio (939) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - NOV 26, 2012
Pours a cloudy amber with a big frothy, foamy beige head. Aroma contains caramel malts, sugar, grapefruit, cherry, floral hops, and soft pine. Its a very nice blend. The taste doesnt really have much of that caramel malt, although its still present. Instead, the floral notes and pine are much more apparent. It has a pretty good hoppy bite. But since the floral hops are so abundant, this feels like a "cleaner" or more fresh IPA. Aftertaste is this combination of hops and pine. Medium in body with a sticky texture. This one is quite different for this style and its good. Although I think I enjoy your more standard versions more.

AtronSeige (1464) - Johannesburg, SOUTH AFRICA - FEB 23, 2017
Aroma: Medium diesel, paw paw, soft tropical fruit Appearance: Hazy, amber body. Small, off-white head. fine bubbles, lacing. Fair retention. Flavour: Very, very high bitterness on first sip. Medium-high resin, soft fruit. Medium black tea. Malt backbone is present, but bitterness is main character. Dry finish with lingering strong bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium-light astringency. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Astringency is detracting. Hops is front and show cased, but the beer could do with a bit more malt complexity. Haziness is bit too high. 330 ml bottle, poured. 21A. American IPA

Color naranja, turbio, con capa de espuma blanca de tres dedos de grosor (buena retencin). Carbonatacin a tope (no tan presente en boca). Aroma herbal, resinoso, marihuana. Sabor poco definido (lpulo, malta, herbal), pero rico. Quiz no estaba fresca del todo. Amargor presente ya en boca, no demasiado elevado. Ni rastro de alcohol. Buena.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2017 Pours a medium hazy, deep orange-copper. Malt and caramel flavours slightly overpowering pine and hinted tropical fruit. Slightly under carbonated, but saved by a decent strength and lingering bitter finish.

First contact with the beers is really intriguing since you can see the thick head that you get from the tap. Smell wise nothing really extra wow..taste wise though were talking for a serious & true IPA here.. The bitterness along with the aromas that the hops will give you is so full and intense that you just dont want to stop drinking it. It is one of the very few beers that Ive drunk a 2nd in a row despite the fact that the choices on the taps were also really really good as well. PS1: Well done Mikeller!! PS2: Well done to The Local for getting us the best beers from around the world in Athens! PS3: I had tasted Green Gold couple of years back @ the Local, but for some reason I hadnt appreciated it properly at that time..

340ml from Roeland Liquors. Pours a hazy deep gold with a loosely packed off white, fluffy head with great retention and lacing. Aromas of pine resin, tropical fruit and some background caramel notes with biscuit. Palate has medium high carbonation and med-light body. Flavour of citrus and slight caramel with high bitterness which lingers into the finish, balanced by some malt notes. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Bottle: Amber coloured, hazy with loads of floaties, small, stable, creamy and lacy off-white head; solid and dry herbal-piney nose, subdued traces of sweet malt underneath; moderate to solid bitter flavour with a delicate sweetness, medium bodied with a creamy MF; lingering - mainly dry - spicy herbal-hoppy finish with - again - a special amount of balancing pale malt. O.K....

Pours dark hazy orange with a slightly off-white head. Aroma is earthy, citrus and light caramel. Taste is mild bitterness with some malty sweetness. Medium bodied, slick with some drying on the finish. Overall a solid IPA that tracks more malty then the usual American counterparts.
