This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Nice looking beer dark amber and cloudy with perfect head. Aroma is lite with citrus and tropical fruit notes. Nice smooth easy drinker that has a touch of bitterness in the finsh.

I was looking forward to Trying Mikkeler, since it gets so many praises of being good and innovative brewer. I was excited to find It’s Hop Series at a reasonable price. Unfortunately my anticipation and excitement was not matched by high standards that everyone praises Mikkeller to live by. Everyone in supply chain is to blame… Mikkeller does not have production dates, Distributor Trying to sell the product no matter what, Binny’s not having balls to stand up to its supplier and let them know that it is out of date and no good. I was pissed… All of them were old and stale, therefore complete waste of time and money. Every time I come across bad batch I swear to stop buying anything that has no dates… I just might do that, since there are plenty of other choices… Going Back to Mikkeller Hop Series… All of them Poured A Shade Lighter Or A Shade Darker of Muddy Brown. All of them Had Smaller or Larger Floaters. Huge Head, Decent Lacing. Earthy, Stale Hops Aroma. Tasted pretty much the same: Earthy, Malt, Stale Hops. Moderate Bitter Finish… Pass It Unless You Know It Is Fresh…

Bottle from Vino Wines. Murky amber body with tiny yeast flecks floating around. Massive off-white head. Light carbonation. Excellent lacing. Mild aroma and flavour of pear, blackcurrant and boiled cabbage. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft, almost flat carbonation. One of the weaker efforts of the Mikkeller Hop Series.

Faint hoppy aroma, some bready malts. Lovely dark body with off white head and lacing. Taste is between a 6 and 7 I’d say. Initially kind of grape sweet, with a bit of alcohol. Not a fresh bottle, but not extremely impressive, but still a pretty nice IPA.

Think I’ve got another single hop past prime. Served with a large, foamy, frothy, cream-colored-to-light tan, long lasting head and plenty of lace. Color is a hazy/cloudy dark amber. Aroma is stale hop, malt, caramel, oak. Flavor’s like nose, stale hop bitter up front , fairly dry, then carbonic tang. Body/carbonation are perfect. Finish is like flavor, long, hint of alcohol. I believe these single hop beers really need to be somewhat fresh.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A hazy orange-brown coloured beer that pours with a creamy white head. It has summer fruit flavours, peppery hop notes and a creamy orange fruity finish.

Tide (4497) - Helsinki, FINLAND - OCT 11, 2013
Bottle from Brewdog shop. Dark amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, ripe fruits, a bit of caramel, pine and metallic aroma. Bitter finish with citrus and pine. Not particularly good, the skunky feeling sticks out.

lusikka (7833) - Tampere, FINLAND - OCT 9, 2013
330 ml bottle.

Pours a dark amber colour with a white foamy head. Aroma of herbs, gooseberry bush and some sweetness. Flavour of herbal hops, floral notes, pine, grass and red berries. Medium bodied, a bit rough mouthfeel and high carbonation. Finishes dry, bitter and rough. Unbalanced.

jmohno (1670) - Iowa, USA - SEP 16, 2013
Pours an amber color, some yeast chunks, good foam.light lace.
Aroma of a toffee, raison, kinda sweet,toasty/light roast, grainy maybe. Mostly a sweet brown sugar-raison kind of aroma.
Taste is much the same as aroma, figgy, medium sweet raison/toffee,has some dry toastyness. Kind of a citrus beneath the burnt carmelly tones A little pine in the bitter.. Dont know how aged this beer is and if im not just getting all malt or not. Its decent though. Probably not a fair shot at judging cluster hops if its not a fresh beer.

This was really good. Copper pour with a small white head. Aromas of floral and citrus hops with some nice malt notes as well. Flavor has lots of dried fruit notes and citrus peel. Very well balanced.
