This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Sampled at Mikkeller Hop Series tasting - Dahlbergs, Helsingborg. August 2011.
Light fruity aromas, mostly oranges and pine. Some notes of cookies and biscuits. A bit sticky in the nose as well. Some alcohol shines through in the taste but other then that surprisingly refreshing.

Dry caramel malt undercurrent. 6+ Average palate. Decent but I don’t love the hops. Mikkeller IPA Tasting at Cole’s, Buffalo

Maria (10211) - Thisted, DENMARK - AUG 27, 2011
All 19 in this hop series are shared with my husband, Anton. It’s hazy bronze with a huge, creamy head. The aroma has notes of caramel, a bit too old citrus fruits and straw. The flavour is sweet with notes of caramel, citrus, straw, bread and the finish is dry with a light bitterness – nice one.

bhensonb (15766) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 24, 2011
Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours fairly clear copper with a 4 finger foamy/creamy light beige head. Aroma is floral, fruity, citrus - and a strong hint of high school sweat sox. Med+ body. Flavor over a nice caramel backbone is floral, mildly funky, citrus, resin. The head has gone into fractured ring lacing. It’s nice. It’s fresh. It’s approaching lush. The earthiness is tasty, but it seems a little unbalanced. Perhaps Magnum is a hop that should not appear alone. But it is very tasty.
