This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Meh...a decent beer at best. Aroma mostly caramel malt with notes of hay. Pour was a nice enough medium gold with a one finger off white head. Taste was heavy on the caramel with an underlying very green hoppiness. A mix of grass and burnt hay. Weird combination, though I was happy to pick out any hop flavor in the beer. Finish was slightly bitter and sticky sweet. Decent carbonation.

Another great beer in this series. Aromas and flavors were floral and piney. Some earthiness. Nice copper color with a good head and full palate.

Drank side by side with the 19 other variants of the serie. I would like to note up front that - since these beer’s are no longer in production, they were not fresh. this rating should thus be viewed with that in mind, and can shed a light on the ’ageing’ differences between the variants. They were probably better fresh... Pours rather clear, dark amber, small white foam. Smell is cheesy, sharp, bit bitter. Taste is bitter, cheesy, green hops. Also, for some reason, this is really boozy, whilst others were not.

12oz bottle from Party Source in Kentucky/Cincy: amber pour with floaties in it and sturdy white head. aroma of sweet biscuity, grass. tastes are malty - spice, caramel, toasty, little soapy.

rouhlas (3984) - Thessaloniki, GREECE - AUG 29, 2015
330ml bottle. Almost clear orange color with off white head. Hoppy and malty aroma, grassy, piney, light fruity. Sweet and bitter taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Kita (2301) - Koper, SLOVENIA - FEB 8, 2015
Bottle, 0.33l. Murky amber brown color with large frothy tan-like head, good lacing, many yeast particles floating and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of grapefruit, ripe passion fruit, grapes and fresh mowed grass. Taste starts with moderate sweet and rich malty with fruity, resinous and herbal following, mouthfeel is spicy, while finish is heavy bitter with average durable aftertaste. Full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Almost perfect...

Bottle @ home. Pours with a very dark orange hazy colour, small off-white head. Aroma is medium hoppy, with notes of citrus, herbs and additional notes of grass. Taste is slightly sweet, medium bitter. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation.

imdownthepub (15518) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 11, 2015
Bottled, 330ml from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Clouded amber with white head. There is a herby, fruity aroma on opening, this does lead to a fuller, fruity beer than many single hop beers. The nugget hop gives a big dose of herbiness along with an earthy, leafy note. Enjoyable.

As goes for all the Hop Series beers I’ve tasted: the bottles were probably quite old, best before of April/May 2015, so some of the hop characteristics might have already gone away. Nice orange color with big head (darkness varied a bit). First, a weird biological lab smell, then honey. Sweet-bitter, becoming very boozy/lab-like towards the end. Good sweet-bitter finish.

cfrancis (3612) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 29, 2014
Pours dark caramel brown with a small off white head and good lacing. Aroma is caramel malts with floral and pine hop bitterness. Taste is intense pine and floral bitterness slightly balanced with caramel malts.

slowrunner77 (13205) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 29, 2014
an average aroma didn’t inspire, but it was easy drinkin enough. 95 ibu provided plenty o bitter in the finish. citrus peel, grassy flavor, with a hint of spice."
