This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Pours cloudy honey like color with big tan head. Floating crumbs. Fruity nose. Aroma is flowery, coconut, citrusy, hoppy. More you drink it it gets less bitter. Nice one!

bigguns22 (800) - Maryland, USA - MAY 23, 2014
Pour is brite amber with a full and creamy off white head. Aroma caramel, citrus and hops. Flavors are nice caramel, hops and grapefruit. Finsh is earthy and bitter.

bubbleflubber (2231) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - MAY 18, 2014
Pours a lightly hazed mahogany into the glass, with a generous eggshell head that leaves thick suds lacing. The nose is of caramel and candied oranges. Flavors of caramel, pale malts, mixed citrus, light biscuits and piney bitters finish with a biscuity flour bitterness that lingers appropriately. The drinkability is great, complex and substantive on the palate, but active and light enough to be quaffable. A great single-hop IPA!

ttroha (516) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - APR 26, 2014
Bottle from Highland Ave. Package. Hazy amber with white head. Aroma of hops. Taste of hops and citrus. Tangy aftertaste.

HKdIPA (832) - HONG KONG - APR 26, 2014
Bottle on roof. Hazy dark amber pour with sediment - bit unappealing. Aroma is fruity hops with apple. Taste is surprisingly grape juice-like. Expected more lemony flavors, which are present but not dominant. Not that bitter but hint of citrus. Lasting sweet grape flavors. Surprisingly good.

Draft sample. Poured a hazy amber color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate herbs, citrus and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. I would recommend this to a friend.

DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 14, 2014
Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Half hazy amber color. Thin ring of off-white head. Leaves a couple dots and bits of lace. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. Medium-plus body. Up front, tastes significantly better than other single-hop Mikkellers I’ve tried, tastes like this one is a bit more fresh. Moderate bitter taste, lighter sweet. Good lightly peppery, light grassy, light piney hop. Interesting malt profile... Light caramel, lightly spicy, some light vanilla... Solid, complex, interesting IPA. Good vanilla, kind of peppery aftertaste, light herbal grassiness. Lightly slick in the finish. Good, interesting stuff.

A little long in the tooth out here in Japan to get the big hop you would expect, but still very drinkable. A little too much caramel malt for me, but that may have balanced out the hops had the bottle been fresher. The bottle was still well in date, but the hops I can only assume have dropped out. I wouldn’t personally rush to get this or any of the other IPA single hop series again after having tried a few, but then I guess you need to get them fresh...
