This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

I was looking forward to Trying Mikkeler, since it gets so many praises of being good and innovative brewer. I was excited to find It’s Hop Series at a reasonable price. Unfortunately my anticipation and excitement was not matched by high standards that everyone praises Mikkeller to live by. Everyone in supply chain is to blame… Mikkeller does not have production dates, Distributor Trying to sell the product no matter what, Binny’s not having balls to stand up to its supplier and let them know that it is out of date and no good. I was pissed… All of them were old and stale, therefore complete waste of time and money. Every time I come across bad batch I swear to stop buying anything that has no dates… I just might do that, since there are plenty of other choices… Going Back to Mikkeller Hop Series… All of them Poured A Shade Lighter Or A Shade Darker of Muddy Brown. All of them Had Smaller or Larger Floaters. Huge Head, Decent Lacing. Earthy, Stale Hops Aroma. Tasted pretty much the same: Earthy, Malt, Stale Hops. Moderate Bitter Finish… Pass It Unless You Know It Is Fresh…

erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - NOV 7, 2013
Clean brown flowing body and large head. Leather, light spice, pine, tea. Clean bitterness, clean yeast, nice aftertaste with this hop. Nice hop, complements the light malts, biscuity body very well. (33cl bottle from Dranken Geers)

zacgillbanks (5356) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - OCT 31, 2013
Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A hazy dark amber beer with floral fruity notes, tropical fruits and elderflower followed by orange and a creamy mouthfeel to the finish. Excellent!

Tide (4061) - Helsinki, FINLAND - OCT 18, 2013
Bottle from Brewdog shop. Amber color, white head. Bittersweet taste with caramel, citrus, a bit of roasted aroma, grass and a bit of hops. Very mild body for an IPA. Bittersweet finish with caramel and citrus. A nice demonstration of Tettnanger hop, but quite unbalanced.

CPH2200 (345) - DENMARK - OCT 11, 2013
33 cl bottle. Cloudy orange brown colour. Creamy head. Weak yeasty aroma. Not very bitter (38 ibu) but fruity and refreshing. Dry bitter mouthfeel. Ok for a low bitternes ipa but not that interesting either.

lusikka (7819) - Tampere, FINLAND - OCT 9, 2013
330 ml bottle.
Pours a dark amber colour with a white foamy head. Aroma of caramel, some weak herbal notes and quite heavy maltiness. Flavour of heavy caramel malts, grassy bitterness, sweet fruits and weak herbal notes. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Finishes sweet, warming and bitter. Decent, but this hop is just not the most suitable hop for single hop IPAs. Base beer with it’s sweetness comes through too much.

weark (833) - Morges, SWITZERLAND - OCT 9, 2013
