This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Pours a cloudy golden colour with a long lasting white head. Aroma of citrus and caramel. Flavour leans more to the woody notes together with pine. One of the better in the series.

Our 4th old as 2012 mikkeller single hop. Low carbonation, lots of very fine sediment. Not my favourite hop. Off-milk and overripe fruit smell. Low bitterness. Dairy texture. Yeasty, milky aftertaste. The worst-aged of the single-hops so far. Pleasant and interesting in the mouth, not so good before and after.

This is getting old so its no surprise that theres almost no hop aroma or flavor. Hop bitterness, sure, but thats about it to match the caramel malts. A pity.

bottle. Amber with two finger head. Ive had a bunch of these now, and this follows the standard of a substantial caramel malt base. Moderate sweetness. Hops are bitter and a bit earthy. Decent, but not amongst my favorites in this series.

Bottle - good size foamy head, murky light brown color, big pine hop aroma and flavor, moderate sweet malt backbone, not bad overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Krigla (186) - SLOVENIA - JAN 10, 2015
Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy dark orange colour with medium beige head. Nice lacing. Lots of floating sediments. Citrusy aroma. Taste starts fruity, sweet and finishes with moderate bitterness with hint of spices. Overall very good IPA.

Pours reddish copper with sediment from my careless pour. The mild aroma has caramel, bread with a mildly spicy and subtle hop presence. Moderate carbonation. Has a clean malt flavor of biscuit and caramel with a quick floral note that quickly fades. Finishes with a mild hop bitterness that is slightly spicy and leaves a lingering spicy/peppery flavor. This one was brewed for educational purposes and to rate it alongside other beers is probably a disservice. I love this concept and appreciated the experience that Mikkeller is providing with this offering.

As goes for all the Hop Series beers Ive tasted: the bottles were probably quite old, best before of April/May 2015, so some of the hop characteristics might have already gone away. Nice orange color with big head (darkness varied a bit). Bready, earthy-bitterness. Not so classic IPA-hops aromas in there. But the bitterness gives a nice finish.

"a nice fruity aroma greets the nose. other than that, though it was a pretty average beer. nothing bad but nothing that stood out in the flavor. ibus in the 30s are too low for an ipa."
