[ As Mikkeller Invasion IPA ].
Unclear medium to dark orange color with a huge, frothy and open, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, fruity, heavy hoppy, grass, citrus, brett, leather, orange - citrus. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet, light to moderate acidic and moderate to heavy bitter with a long long duration, brett, hoppy, citrus, hoppy bitter, funky, yeasty, dry, peel bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Wow what a aroma - so gooood !!!
From tap at MikkellerBar. Drakes version is hazy golden deep yellow while the against the grain version is dark orange, clearer too. Both with a small white head. Aroma is orange fruity, crisp citrusy. Drakes version is more grapefruity and light cornish / malty. Bitter, toasted malt base in the Drakes version, also pine hoppy notes. Grain version is more crisp citrusy. Bitter and lasting citrusy finish. Lasting malty too for the Drakes version. Quite different. I prefer the Against the Grain version. Drakes version on draft. A hazy amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, bread, and spicy hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of toffee, malt, spicy hops, and a bit of alcohol, leading to a dry and bitter finish. joergen (28386) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 5, 2012
Draught at Mikkeller Bar.
Hazy orange coloured with a small white head.
Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel, bread and hops with notes of pine needles.
Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel, hops, grass and grape fruits.
Dry hoppy finish. Papsoe (25062) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 8, 2012
On tap. Against The Grain version. Pours an almost clear deep, dark amber with an off-white head. Intense but also somewhat greasy and herbal hop aroma. Medium-bodied, lightly sweet fruit and caramel before distinct citrusy hops leaving a bitter finish. Straight, there’s nothing wrong with it but it’s simply not all that thrilling. Mikkeller has made a lot of better IPA’s at De Proef! 070412

Hazy amber beer, decent cream coloured head. Palate starts soft turns sharp mineral crispy! Strong grainy malt base with a trace of caramel. Good piney hops with a nice sweet orange underneath. Malt turns creamy before smooth finish. Sharp minerals again. Bitter aftertaste. A little barleywine like and very nice indeed.
22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma is medium hop heavy, with piney and resinous hops apparent, along with some subtle spicy hops. Flavour of resinous hops with a subtle spic, and just enough malt backing. Finishes dry and bitter. Nothing special here - strange for Mikkeller - but well-made nonetheless. jtclockwork (16685) - , New Jersey, USA - APR 9, 2012
Bottle. Pours cloudy gold with white head. Nose/taste of pineapple, citrus, caramel malt and dry pine. Inconsistent - sometimes its in the nose - sometimes it’s not. Finishes very dry with pine. Medium body. brokensail (16486) - Dublin, California, USA - JAN 24, 2012
The beer is golden orange in color with a white head. A nice aroma which is quite fruit forward. Good grapefruit and citrus with a touch of tropical fruit. Sweet bready malt is there in the background. The flavor is not quite as enjoyable, but still good. Grapefruit and orange peel make up most of the hop flavor, but there is also some floral and pine character. A bit more sweet malt than I was hoping for, though. Bottle - Sweet hoppy pine and a bit of orange. Clear amber with a nice thick head. Lots of resin and bitterness, dry and an alcohol finish. Nice and thick on the palate. I find the bitterness and resin much too harsh and unbalanced.
