Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Zwart bier met shcuim. Smaak is licht zoet en krachtig met iets van karamel, drop en anijs. Voor een quadrupel vrij licht en vlak van smaak.

Bottle at home (bb 30/08/22). Pours dark with a fast disappearing head. Aroma of malts, dark fruits, caramel, brown sugar, metallic, yeast, alcohol. Taste is over moderate to heavy sweet, moderate bitter, light yeasty sweet malty aftertaste, warming alcohol. Not bad.

Pours very nicely in red amber with high head. Taste is rich, almost sparkling with lots of sweetness and malty richness. Palate is a little alcohol but still malty and rich.

Bottle. Pours brown with small sticky pale brown-yellowish head. Aroma: sweet, almonds, resin, candy, brown sugar, a bit bourbonish, toffee, nuts etc. Taste: medium sweet, candy, sugar, caramel. Up to full body. Sweet finish. Aroma is better than tastye.

Flesje van Slijterij Teeuwen gelabeld als Monks’s brew. Donker bruinrode kleur, mooie kraag. Ruikt niet erg sterk, mout, wat droppigs. Smaakt idem, niet veel body, vrij vlak. Snap niet waarom dit bier zo’n hoge ratings krijgt.

Bottle at home. Young wine, plums. Tastes like wine, grapes, plums, barrel, wood, wet oak barrel. Medium carbonation. Alcohol- bourbon/whiskey- warm fruity accents. So very good. Highly recommended.

Appearance: slightly hazy but good dark colour with great tan head Aroma: yeasty, fruit, plums Mouthfeel: medium full mouthfeel with medium carbonation Taste: roast malts, plums, smooth, a litrle boozy Overall: really enjoyed this. So smooth it belittles the 10% ABV
