(Draught at lbaren, Copenhagen, 18 May 2007) Dark brown colour with brief head. Malty, sweetish and rather ... brownish nose with hints of herbs and cola. Malty, rather sweet taste with chocolate, dark fruit, raisins and figs. Balanced, but not really complex.A good try at the styel, though.

Sample at West Lakeview Liquors tasting with Mikkel. Pours to a hazy mahogany body with a thin wispy off-white head. The aroma is very estery and yeasty. Malts are nice in this one. Raisins, butter, and wine. The flavor is sweet candi sugar, raisins, yeasty esters. Buttery biscuits, bananas, dry spices. The palate is dry, light, and refreshing. Finishes pretty clean.

Poured in the presence of the Man himself! Translucent copper with a short off-white head. The aroma picked up deep caramel and dark fruity sugars with some prickly, leafy hoppage.. came off as dry and very well-presented. The flavor found toasty caramel and sweet darker fruit sugars again with moderate floral hoppage that stuck through the finish.. nice yeasty esters throughout. Medium-bodied with nice balance between the sweet notes, yeast, and bitterness.. warm, quite dry, and almost grainy at the back-end and finish.

25 oz bottle, via Papsoe. Pours a clear dark amber to brown body. An almost one finger foamy off-white head that retained as a thin film. The nose is huge fruity esters with bananas, rum soaked raisins, candied plums, candi sugar, and vanilla. Minimal alcohol showing. The flavor is big fruity malts up front, lots of caramel and toffee that gives way to big yeast derived byproducts of plum, fig, and raisin bread. A little bit of chocolate even. A little too much alcohol on the finish, some lingering honeydew like notes and candi sugar. Theres a ton going on here, Im not sure that its overall that great, but it is complex. Theres something to the finish that actually reminds me of Averys The Reverand, I think its the risidual candi sugar, but its not necessarily a wonderful thing to be associated with The Reverend for me. Mouthfeel is full bodied and a little cloying as it got warmer. Moderate soft fizzy carbonation. A lot of alcohol heat after the swallow. Overall, this was very very complex, but not the best Quad for sure.

Lumpy (1802) - Carrollton, Texas, USA - MAY 15, 2008
Bottle. Body-dark almandine body with a medium patchy ring of bubbles. Nose-raw, leather, sweet metal, tobacco, wheaty, licorice, brown sugar. Taste-abrasive, low sweetness, odd, raisin, light cherry, starts off rough and abrasive but gets better as it warms. Has the typical Mikkeller low key flavor profile that is hard to describe (like a mix of metal, berry, apple, cherry, must, and unrefined brown sugar). Kind of thin and light smoke.
