Bottle. A more or less unclear brown beer with a small beige head. Oily pour. Vinous, oxidized aroma with leather, prunes, alcohol, some dark malts and a touch of baked apples. It’s full-bodied, close to flat, and warming, with flavors of alcohol, dessert wine, sweet apple cider, prunes and a wee hint of balsamic vinegar. Cellar notes and fruit acid chimes in towards the finish. Lots of good things going on here, but it’s sure not a beer you bring to a vorspiel. This is more suited for a quiet time in the favorite chair. 180210 madmitch76 (26847) - , Essex, ENGLAND - FEB 10, 2018

Hazy deep amber beer, small cream colour head. Palate is smooth and fairly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Airy malts, a light dry creamy sweetness well balanced by a little dry wood. Good tangy dessert wine, ripe and sweet and sourish. Modest sherry. Light finish. Tasty and drinkable.

Bottle 0,375. Pours dark brown with medium off-white head. Malts, barrels, some caramel, yeast, red berries jam in the aftertaste, the staternes notes reminds somewhat of rum notes. Flat to no carbonation, somewhat oily texture.

375ml bottle bought at ICBeer in Kwun Tong.
Looks: Cloudy hazy straw Burgundy colour with a thin ring of dirt-like yeast sediments; Less than one-quarter finger head and residual soapy off-white foam which fades in 10 seconds; Good sticky lacing with zero carbonation.
Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet malt, with Sherry, sweet wine, white grapes, raisins, vanilla, strong oak barrel, strong apricots, peaches, yellow fruits, honey, strong caramel, barnyard, floral, strong sugar, spices, bread and light grass. Aroma keeps changing as temperature rises. Rich and lovely!
Taste: Medium sweet malt, with strong sharp tartness, very strong oak barrels, vanilla, dry white wine, Port wine, white grapes, shades of wine vinegar, caramel, alcohol, liquorices, floral, fair molasses, spices, biscuits, yeast, lemon, fair bitter hops and light grass.
Body: Mid to full body. Winey and fairly slick palate.
Mouth Feel: Good maltyness in a fairly thin background, totally submitted to the almighty sweet wine barrel. Ironically its taste isn't very sweet at all, with the Brett full force manifested in strong but subtle vinaigrette tartness. Strong influence of white wine and Port wine, with matching booze and liquorices to drown out any sweetness. Flowery spicy with lemon to round. Excellent!
Hoppiness: Floral, spices and light grass in nose. Same in taste with lemon; Bitterness - mostly liquorices - is fairly strong for an abrupt, mid-astringent winey finish.
After Taste: Fairly Dry. Bretty spicy and fairly bitter to mouth.
Comments: This one's aroma suggests a heavy sweet (but very vibrant) wine bomb, but the Brett works wonder with a vinegar tartness which balance the moderate sweetness perfectly. A fine case of asymmetrical nose and taste which tunes to perfection. A winner!
P.S. A great choice for my 2100th rating!
Sweet grapes, tropical fruits, mango, passion fruit, tangerine, orange. Hazy gold, small, creamy, white head. Light bitter. More creamy citrus fruits, mango, light passion fruit, dry, tarty cheesecake, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Nice BSA, well-balanced. Keg at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. (Draught at Kulminator, Antwerpen, 18 May 2017) Reddish brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with oak wood, red fruit, caramel and vinous aromas. Malty taste with notes of caramel, oak wood, dark fruit and a balanced spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Really tasty, but a bit too woody to be deemed as balanced. Still, nice one. TimE (6349) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAY 12, 2017
This is listed as the chard at Mikkeller Tokyo but reality is this is def this beer. Dark brown color. Tons of stewed, dried raisins, sherry and oak. Very rich and slightly sweet. A bit of umami. Pretty nice stuff. 77ships (11601) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 7, 2017
Thanks to Travlr! Sampled draft @ Kulminator. Dark brownish amber, creamy white head. Nose is sweet red wine oxidizes, sugar, thinned out, big old wood & dry porto, some sherry. Not very beer like but not very Sauternes like either, more of an old dry Porto with maybe a dash of Sherry, thin, lightly watery, oxidized rew wine going over into Porto wine leaves profile, far too vinous, lacking body, lacking malt. Maybe wine lovers will get this one better. Too watery, Porto, dry wine oxidized. Just too much time in the barrel for me.
