Here's another beautiful gift from Mikkeller SD. I'm already pretty crazy about the whole hoppy pils trend. Mikkeller's is the best one that has come out in the last few months. Golden color. Clean bread and cracker start and crisp, hoppy finish. Leafy, floral, and citrusy hop notes - bright and juicy. It's a simple but satisfying setup, and at 4.2% you can throw back a few of these before you need to call it a day.

Big pine and tropical fruit aromas. Slightly hazy yellow with a big active head. Smooth grainy fruitness with a soft fragrant bitter from the hops. Light astringent bitterness lasts and stains your mouth.

DOC: 11/11/2016

2015 BJCP Category: 18B American Pale Ale

AROMA: Moderately high spicy hops plus some lemony notes. Low grainy malt presence. No adjuncts, no off flavors. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Pale gold hue with a cloudy body. Moderate white soapy foam retains and laces well. 2/3

FLAVOR: The American hops impart fairly strong citrusy flavors, though a classic Noble hop spiciness is present. Malt base is clean grainy malt with little distinctive character and almost no sweetness. Hops linger momentarily but are not astringent. Slight tartness as well. Whether a true lager or an ale, the fermentation profile is clean. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body over moderate carbonation. Slightly crisp, but smooth and quaffable. Refreshing while in the mouth, but with a residual hoppy aftertaste. Highly efficient and sessionable at 4.6% ABV. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Though marketed as a "hoppy pilsner," this is probably better considered an APA and works well as such. 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 43/50

The aroma on this is just massive, lots of mineral and European hops, even some other scents like ginger and lemongrass. The taste is minerally, clean crisp grain, and very dry, nice lager sparkle to this beer and a long aftertaste. Very light and crushable yet so much refreshing flavour, would love to drink this again and again!

12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 2/21/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear medium golden/yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/earthy hops and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/earthy hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.6%. Overall this is an awesome hoppy pilsener. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/earthy hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. Very vibrant and dank on hops; with a solid malt backbone to balance. A really delicious offering.

On tap at Coffee District. Clear golden body. Nice white head. Smells of pine and spruce hops with a little doughy bread. Tastes aggressively hopped. All spruce. Delicious. Citrusy in the back end when the hops die down allowing some sweet bready maltiness to come through. Light, crisp, and delicious. This is awesome.

Can from Holiday Market. Aroma is clean, very floral with some citrus, bready malts, some tropical fruit, absolutely lovely. Appearance is golden, off white head, mostly clear. Taste is crisp, clean, citrus and pine dominate with some lovely floral notes combining with the bready malt, great stuff. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light crisp carbonation, clean citrus floral pine bready aftertaste. Overall, this one is incredibly solid.
